I really liked the director's work on 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Boys so I'm hoping this will be a good one.

I'll watch any Predator movie, but none of the sequels have even come close to the original. I know people usually say that about movies, but with this particular genre you have series like Alien and Terminator where there have been very good sequels (I've heard people argue T2 and Aliens are better than the originals).
Being in an outdoor setting is a good start. The predator is more in its element in a jungle or something IMO.

I do agree with you, and very few sequels come close to the originals, and with good reason. However, I'll go to bat for the first AVP. That was a cool, fun movie. Predators was also not bad (though not overly good either to be fair).

My only hope with this is that the people are actually primitive and it’s like Predator hunting them. So you the predator becomes a part of their folk lore and culture and kind of an Earth origin story for Predators

Thats fair enough. I have an emotional attachment to 80's sci fi as those were films of my childhood. So I still get excited about these projects even though they have let me down time and time again.
