Obviously you want a gun for the malevolent living, but you need a good walker killer.
I think one of these sais would be pretty sweet for taking out walkers.

A short halbred or a naginata.
You need reach+slicing+poking
That's the perfect weapon.
A bardiche/guisarme or battle axe can suffice in a pinch and are probably more common. I'm a fan of Hatchets too. Light. Throwable. You can carry a few.
Hammer's are also extremely underrated, yeah they are heavy but they'll never go dull.
