I doubt it. Again, if WB had any faith in the movie it would have already come out in theaters instead of being sold to Netflix.

quote:

The film, originally titled Jungle Book: Origins, was initially set for an October 2016 release by Warner Bros. In December 2014, Warner Bros. shifted the date to October 2017, allowing more time for further work on the visual effects. In April 2016, just before the wide release of Disney's The Jungle Book, the film's release date was moved to October 19, 2018. In October 2017, Andy Serkis revealed the working title of the film to be Mowgli: Tales from the Jungle Book. In December, the official title was changed to Mowgli. Serkis stated that the film would be "darker" and more "serious" in tone than from previous Jungle Book adaptations. In March 2018, Serkis said first footage would be released "very soon". The first trailer and a behind-the-scenes featurette premiered on May 21, 2018.

In July 2018, it was announced that Netflix had purchased the worldwide distribution rights of the film from Warner Bros. and would set a 2019 release date, including a theatrical 3D release. Speaking of the move, Serkis stated:

"I'm really excited about Netflix for Mowgli. Now, we avoid comparisons to the other movie and it's a relief not to have the pressure. I've seen the 3D version, and it's exceptional, a different view from the 2D version, really lush and with great depth, and there will be some kind of theatrical component for that. What excites me most is the forward thinking at Netflix in how to present this, and the message of the movie. They understand this is a darker telling that doesn't fit it into a four quadrant slot. It's really not meant for young kids, though I think it's possible that 10 or above can watch it. It was always meant to be PG-13, and this allows us to go deeper, with darker themes, to be scary and frightening in moments. The violence between animals is not gratuitous, but it's definitely there. This way of going allows us to get the film out without compromise."

On November 7, 2018, Netflix released a new trailer for the film, announcing a new title change, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, as well as its limited theatrical release on November 29, 2018 and its subsequent streaming release on December 7, 2018.

Studios don't just give up and sell a movie off unless they think it's going to tank hard. Doing it with something that likely cost $150 million to make is a pretty stunning move.

It's not like it's going to cost you anything to sample it.

So what? Just b/c I already have Netflix doesn't mean it's somehow going to be a better film than if it was a theatrical release.

Odds are it's a turd just like Cloverfield Paradox which was another movie that went from being wide release to Netflix once the studio saw the final cut.

Mowgli was in production before the 2016 version but itll be viewed as the copycat version. Even if the film is on par in quality, it wont hey as high of ratings based on that alone.

They started working on this movie before Disney's remake. Disney beat them to the punch and this movie was shelved. Apparently too dark for kids and a lot of people don't like the animals with human features. Solid cast and I like Serkis.

I fell asleep to it last night, it wasn't that bad. I was just tired.

Netflix movies are this generations "straight to DVD/VHS". Going further back it would be like B-movies and the Staurday all day movies. There were always some decent straight to video movies, the vast majority were turds. B-movies though had many worth seeing.

Worth checking out but do not expect anything similar to the other. It’s very dark and apparently more towards the original story written before the Disney adaptation. I say that based on other posts or google. Can’t remember.

I can’t give an honest comparison or tell you which one I prefer (this or Favreau’s) because they are so different.

I liked it and would recommend it to any avid movie watchers.

I liked this one much better than the one in 2016. They clearly were in two different directions.....honestly wouldnt even recommend young children watch this one, as it has some pretty dark moments. As mentioned in the spoiler above, I was caught off guard with that one myself.

Yeah, that was messed up!!! Wife had tears flowing down her cheeks like crazy also, and that part wasn't needed, very cheap scare tactic on their part...

Entertaining movie but much darker version compared to Disney's movies. Special effects took some time to get use to though, weird faces...

King Louie was not in the books, which is what this movie was mostly based on

Being darker in itself made it closer to the book. I dont really view the book as a kids book.

They were going pretty close to the book until he got to the people. I mean it made for a decent story but that part was way off.

Also, I dont know why any of them dont want to kill shere Khan like he was in the books. It was a much better way than any way the movies have done.

That would be like someone making a live action Transformers and then a year or two later someone else making one and saying "That one was based on the toy line, this one is based on the cartoon" or something like that

The cartoon was based on the toyline. The toys came first.

Just as a FYI.
