New 4K tv and surround system getting installed tomorrow.
What's some good movies to test both the sound and and HDR 4K picture?
For sound effects I was thinking of some good war movies like maybe Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down.
Not sure what would be best to test out the picture quality. Maybe check the tech board?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I second Saving Private Ryan for the opening scene.
Newest Star Wars.
Finally, John Wick for true shoot em up style movie.

We had the 4K direct tv box installed last week.
The new 4K DVD player came with a 4K DVD. Creed. It's the only one we have right now.
I need to find some 4K DVD's.

These are great collections of reference material.

The two that make my hair curl when I listen to them on my system are 12 Monkeys and Days of Thunder.
In 12 Monkeys Bruce Willis is in his padded cell and the guy (who isn't there) starts talking to him. The sound goes to each individual speaker as the guy is saying "I may be in the next room, or I may be a figment of your imagination, etc, etc, etc. Pretty awesome.
Days of thunder is when they walk out on the infield and Rowdy is the only car going around the racetrack. It's the part where Robert Duvall says "Now, that's a race car driver right there". Since they are in the middle you hear the car go all the way around the track in the speakers just like if you were standing in the middle of the track yourself.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is a reference quality blu ray.
The first Thor movie is one of the most balanced for sound.

For sure. If you don't have time for the whole movie just watch the storming of the beach and the end scene.
Avatar might be a cool motive to watch in 4K as well.

Some good suggestions so far.
I'll add in We Were Soldiers. One of the best surround sound movies I've ever watched.
I would definitely start with SPR or Heat though.

Equilibrium has a pretty cool scene when he walks into the room and it goes black. Bunch of shooting starts and it surrounds you.
