Movie critiques that were terrible in hindsight

The top 3 movie thread sent me down a rabbit hole and I found the following concerning Predator:
“Elvis Mitchell of The New York Times described the film as "grisly and dull, with few surprises."[29] Dean Lamanna wrote in Cinefantastique that "the militarized monster movie tires under its own derivative weight."[30] Michael Wilmington of the Los Angeles Times proclaimed it "arguably one of the emptiest, feeblest, most derivative scripts ever made as a major studio movie."[31] Variety wrote that the film was a "slightly above-average actioner that tries to compensate for tissue-thin-plot with ever-more-grisly death sequences and impressive special effects."[32] Adam Barker of The Monthly Film Bulletin found that "unfortunately, special effects have also been substituted for suspense" and that "the early appearance of the Predator makes the final gladiatorial conflict predictable, and the monster's multiple transformations also exhaust interest in its final appearance."
Good stuff.
What are some of your top critic review gaffes?

With all the shitty reviews ever written about great films, you pick a review written about Predator?

Didn't Pauline Kael hate Star Wars?

Siskel and Ebert were fricking idiots.

Wasn't a huge fan of Ebert either but he was certainly preferable to Siskel, who got his job b/c he happened to be working at a paper when the movie reviewer position opened up

The Shining’s critiques were terrible. I’ve read the Shining, and sorry, Kubrick’s rendition was better.

That’s because it’s not that good, simple as that.

The bigger point about this is the amazing picture of how times have changed. Back then Siskel and Ebert were the portal for the majority of people to know what was good cinema and what was bad. They were the original movie critics. There was no Internet and there was no rotten tomatoes.
I have no issue with their thoughts on this movie. It’s just interesting to look back in time And see how industry was reviewed by critics back then.
Obviously aliens was a fantastic movie but we get the privilege of hindsight whereas they didn’t.

They critiqued the movie before watching it?
No wonder their reviews are terrible.

Ebert gave Die Hard (2 stars out of 4).
Thrillers like this need to be well-oiled machines, with not a single wasted moment. Inappropriate and wrongheaded interruptions reveal the fragile nature of the plot and prevent it from working.

Critical circle jerks over films like American Beauty and The English Patient.

Snow White garnered $12 million in 1937, becoming the most successful film of all time at that point, shattering The Jazz Singer's $6 million record. It made more internationally than Jazz Singer did total. In 1937 millions of people who had never seen any movie ever, were traveling miles to see Snow White. Cover of Time Magazine 1 week after release. Critics universally amazed by the animation, calling it required viewing, a work of art fit for a museum. Adjusted for inflation it is still a top 10 all time grossing film, the #1 all time grossing animated film. And a continuing merchandising/franchising property for Disney generating millions.

Critics are writers with great vocabularies and no creatve talent.
