Paramount’s mother! is looking at $4.2M today and $9M-$11M this weekend. Many believe it’s going lower because audiences since last night have been hating on the Darren Aronofsky-Jennifer Lawrence team-up. mother! was sold like a Screen Gems horror film, but when moviegoers finally get inside the theater, they find out it’s something completely different. PostTrak results reveal a 51% overall positive and a 33% definite recommend, which is as bad as it gets.

Well, it’s clear: Moviegoers officially hate Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! The film scored a rare F grade from CinemaScore audiences last night, and there were many rivals heading into the weekend who were expecting that type of reaction. As we heard at noon, the bold Jennifer Lawrence pic is crashing well below its projections with an estimated $7.8M in third. When compared to her wide releases in their first weekend (1,000-plus theaters), it’s the lowest opening for Lawrence, even lower than her 2012 Relativity horror movie The House at the End of the Street ($12.3M).

Aronofsky isn't exactly known for putting out box office hits.

He makes ambitious films that are usually very divisive. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. But I applaud him for taking risks when everyone else is just remaking old films and putting out trash sequels.

I'm no longer a Jennifer Lawrence fan. The bitch just can't keep her mouth shut. She's paid to entertain, not to pontificate about politics.

Her career is on a decline right now. Passengers bombed, no one cared about the mop movie, and the last X-Men and Hunger Games movies both had disappointing box offices. She needs a hit before her star power slips too much.

It opened in about 2250 theaters and was made for around 30 million, and its an Arnofsky movie. Didnt really think it would do a 20+ million opening.

The movie was annoying because it was like a parody of a O'Russell movie - like he said, I'm David...this is my signature look.

Remind me again why we think she's a big deal? She's announced she's taking a break from acting anyway.

She was excellent in Winter's Bone and pretty good in Silver Linings Playbook, but she's been pretty bad in her past 3-5 movies.

FWIW, Rex Reed says worst movie of the century, maybe ever.

But, he doesn't drink the Aronofsky Kool-Aid - at all.

Pi, Black Swan, the Wrestler, and Requiem were all pretty close to universally well liked by non-critics who check out RT, IMDB, and Metacritic.

I think the Fountain was pretty poorly regarded but overall he's not that divisive. Maybe this is just a dud.
