A book series doesn’t necessarily translate into box office.

Eragon, for example, was an adaptation of a 4+ book series which flopped bad enough not to get a sequel.

Agreed. There’s no reason for waterworld to get as much hate as it did. It was well acted and was a fun adventure movie. I know i’ve Watched it more than many other “better” movies.

Never heard of the book(s) before seeing the trailer. Apparently the book(s) are popular around the world. I think the movie may be successful if it is good and has strong word of mouth. I'll probably go see it over the holidays if it gets good reviews.

ETA:
Reviews aren't that great so I probably won't go see it.

There is too much competition between Aquaman and Bumblebee for this movie to succeed. Both of those have been well reviewed too. Mortal Engines will lose a lot of money.

I agree that it looks like hot garbage. But it also looks like one of those hot garbage movies that’ll crush it in china.

I have no clue what this is about either and I agree it seems like a nonsensical premise. Flying cities and floating cities make sense to a certain degree. Being in the air or water provides isolation. Both would presumably be aimed at the super wealthy so the money to support the expensive infrastructure that makes it float/fly would be there. What is the point of a rolling city though? How is it less costly to take a city to something than to take something to a city?

But at least it's different.

Yeah, it definitely wouldn't be a working engine.

I don't know. I thought Hot Tub Time Machine was a stupid premise, but I loved it.

This seems 100 times more absurd, but it's hard for me to believe that Jackson would spend so much energy on something that had little to no potential to be good. This seems like it might be a story in which, if the viewer can just accept the stupid premise, they'll like it.
