In hindsight, is 14 years enough time gone by for a movie to spoil another movie?

It would be like a movie coming out today spoiling Dark Knight (2008).

Another question, does spoiling Top Gun get a pass because that movie is overrated and horrible?

Quentin Tarantino ruined Top Gun with his “Maverick is struggling with his homosexuality” theory.

I don't know if there is a really good answer on this. I do think it's kinda cheap to spoil another show/movie in your own show/movie to begin with, personally. I remember in an early season episode of the office dwight spoils the ending of the sixth sense which was like 6 or 7 years old I think at that point. And I mean, by that point the ending had kind of become a meme in and of itself so maybe not a huge deal but still seemed unnecessary to me.

I think it's probably a lot more "in bounds" to spoil a lighthearted comedy/drama like top gun than it is to spoil a psychological drama with a massive twist ending.

I thought Teri Polo was very hot in Meet the Parents

Also, every time I flush a toilet, I say “ah yes opposable thumbs”

Holy shite

This SPOILERRRRZ thing is annoying as hell. If you don't want a movie spoiled for you then go see it. Imagine having a newborn the year Top Gun came out then when the kid is in 8th grade saying "don't ruin Top Gun for me!!!!!"

We've gotten out of control with the spoiler thing.

Didn't someone put a "spoilers" tag on a thread about The Wire the other day?

I get 14 years is a long time and I'm not debating one bit that that's fair game on spoilers. But the rest of yoru post is completely absurd. Your logic is that hsould have seen any TV show or movie in history that you might ever have an interest in seeing. When you go to see movie A, I think there's a logical, reasonable expectation that you would not be spoiled on Movie B. Think of the absurdity of saying "I really want to go see meet the parents this weekend, although I haven't seen top gun yet so maybe I should steer clear of MTP in the event they might have spoilers in it"

Its also absurd to expect people to stop talking about stuff for your benefit. Are people supposed to avoid any references in a movie for fear its going to spoil something for someone?

Im not a fan of purposely acting like a dick and ruining stuff for people. But everyone shouldnt have to dance around stuff because that person didnt see something

Exactly.

10+ years is certainly appropriate. If you haven't seen a classic within 10 years then that's on you.

To piggyback off this comment… Craig Kilborn deliberately spoiled this movie on his show. It seemed like it was just going to be funny bit, but he came out and spoiled the movie and said that Bruce Willis was dead. The movie was still in theaters at the time, and I had not yet seen it. I liked Craig Kilborn, but that was a total dick move.

That entire scene including De Niro's mentioning Greg growing up on a farm and the whole milking discussion was both hilarious and uncomfortable to watch. But, the look on her face while Greg is making the milking gesture is really funny.

I started reading the Old Testament and I see there’s a movie called “The 10 Commandments” coming on. Can anyone advise if the movie will spoil the book?

Please no spoilers. So let it be written; so let it be done.

Thread was started in 2022 on this topic?

Guess Luke's real father will be a shocker too!

And wait until you hear who shot J.R. Ewing!

Comedian Nate Bargatze had a sixth Sense joke in one of his recent specials where he actually made a joke about having to "spoil" a 20 year old movie for the joke to work.

quote:

Do you ever get in those fights? Like, you’ll be at home, you and your spouse, and you guys are not talking to each other, and… But you’re in the house together, no kids, the house is quiet, and you just stay on opposite ends, and then you pass each other in the hallway. That’s the funniest part, ’cause you don’t live in a mansion. You have one hallway. And you just didn’t time it out right, and you just have to walk by each other like strangers. You’re like, “Oh, excuse me. Sorry. Yeah, no, go ahead.” She’ll be watching TV, I’m like, “Ma’am, are you watching this? I couldn’t tell, I was going to change it if you weren’t watching it.”

It’s the silent treatment. The silent treatment is a very common thing. Everybody knows what it is. Uh, I think women are just born knowing it. I don’t think you’re taught it. I don’t think it’s like, “My mom did it, and her mom…” It’s an instinct that’s in us all, that we all just know. And here’s what made me, uh, think of that. I re-watched the movie Sixth Sense, and I’m not trying to do a Sixth Sense joke. This is a 20-year-old movie. I also have to spoil it, but it’s… I mean, it’s 20 years old. So, if… If you don’t know by now, I don’t know what to tell you, you know? And don’t be like, “We were gonna watch it tonight. Uh… We were gonna go to Blockbuster on the way home, and… -What?” There’s… But… So he’s… You know, he’s dead the whole time, and I don’t know. I mean, that’s… If you haven’t seen it, that’s a pretty big part of it, but… for those that have, think about when you watched it. When we saw this movie for the first time, none of us knew he was dead. That was the biggest surprise we’ve ever seen in our life. You know? We just thought his wife wasn’t talking to him for, like, a year. That made more sense to us than him possibly being dead. And when I watched it, I was like, “What, do they show him dying?” Yeah, that guy shoots him with a gun. That’s how the movie starts. That’s how obvious. They’re like, “Hey, he’s dead.” And we still watched it for two hours, just like, “I know what this guy’s going through, you know? This is… This is a movie about marriage and how hard marriage is. Yeah. Even if you get shot, it’s your fault.”
