Man hunter or Red Dragon?

Simple question. Very different movies about the same story

I think Manhunter is the better “procedural”. I think Red Dragon is more terrifying. I’m torn

Anthony Hopkins will always get the nod as far as the question goes.

Red Dragon is the only time that I felt the movie was better than the book. Usually the opposite, but man that was a good movie.
ETA: I spoke too soon - I think The Godfather fits in there too, amazing movie.

Red Dragon may be a little more "faithful" to the book, but Manhunter is a much better movie, IMO.
In terms of visuals and style, they're not even on the same level.

I like Brian Cox, but his Hannibal did nothing for me.

Wow the M/TV Board has finally seen the light.

Hopkins's Lector is far better but there's something about that 80's style of Manhunter and Mann's direction that makes it a better film to me.
Stephen Lang was also super underrated playing the annoying tattler editer
the 80's synth score, the pastel colors, the beach scenes, etc. Just awesome

It's a wash...but I will say this, Red Dragon is the best of all the books.

Manhunter was a movie that really burned itself into my psyche. Michael Mann really knocked it out the park. Have a strong affinity for it.

It's blasphemous to say anything against Hopkins' Hannibal, which is one of the greatest characters ever put on screen, but he was more of a minor character in Red Dragon anyway. And I almost got the sense that Hopkins had forgotten how to play him while watching that. Ed Norton was dull as dishwater and other than Fiennes and PSH the rest of the acting seemed like one take, eh good enough let's save money on film. Manhunter has an incredible score, an 80s feel that just somehow fits, and William Peterson was awesome back in the day. I honestly didn't care about Lecter in either film, I cared about "the dragon"

Red Dragon, better acting

I've always liked Red Dragon a lot but never saw Manhunter, so I'll watch it tonight and decide and that will be the end of it.

Manhunter. It’s one of those I can watch over and over.
