I do think Tolkien’s work can not be harmed from the outside unlike say Star Wars can be. I think it’s pretty easy to ignore and just mock the series as blasphemous as it may be. These writers have no additional insight into Tolkien’s world.

You do know that he was employed by Amazon before being unceremoniously fired, don’t you?
The claim is that he was fired because he said “too much“ in some random podcasts nobody heard. But also recently it’s been said that he pushed back against what they were doing story wise and that’s the real reason he was fired.
So yes, he is advanced in years but he was also involved with the process. Nobody living knows more about Tolkien’s works than Mr. Shippey .But there are also a long list of fans and experts who see this show as nothing short of defiling the legacy.

From all the trailers, I do not see how anyone will ever mistaken this for LOTRs or Tolkien in any way. This just looks like low rent game of thrones to me. It holds no allegiance to Tolkien's work, therefore, its not really LOTRs.

The cultural Marxists are very aware of how this in no way reflects Tolkien's work. That was precisely the point from the beginning - to destroy one more cultural touchstone of Western literature and thought.

Also keep in mind that tons of reviewers loved the Last Jedi because they realized it killed Star Wars. Where the frick could you take it after that movie besides being forced to bring back Palpatine, even though that was clearly not JJ Abrams original intent.
