- Pranks were fun and all but he was picking on Dwight all the time
- All smug when he said he got 2 cases of "imported beer" for his party
- Let Michael fall into the Koi Pond
- Broke up with Katy on a boat - at least wait till they are back
- Shitty roommate to Daryl
- basically used Karen (who was the real catch)
- tried to bail on Pam at the dinner party

So many more

Jim is a huge dick. I hate him more every time I re-watch the show.

The episode that seals how awful he is for me is the one where he and Dwight have the snowball fight. As soon as he is on the receiving end of the prank he crumbles and whines like a little bitch. frick Jim.

Quite the opposite. Jim was soft. Dwight was the real man. His no-nonsense approach is the way to operate.

It was great when Dwight got him back.

People seem to judge Jim based on real world ethics while also ignore if that Dwight would be considered a grade a psychopath in the real world and Michael would have been fired episode 1.

Outside the last season which is poorly written to create some kind of drama, Jim isn’t that bad:

i think there are some definite episodes where they try to portray Jim and Pam as the assholes who think they are better than everybody.

Pam not being good at sales and then lying her way into the office manager job
Pam missing Michael's last day to go to the movies
Jim being a crappy roommate with Daryl
Jim faking jury duty to stay home with Pam and the baby
Jim having people take on his role when he's doing athleap

Jim, Pam, and Oscar are supposed to be the straight man (lolz) to everybody else's buffoonery, but you definitely get to see them being condescending when they can all be pretty shitty as well.

i agree 100% with all this. frick jim. Dwight is basically on the spectrum. so jim gets off making fun of disabled people all day while stealing peoples fiances thinking hes smarter and better than everyone. frick that guy. not to mention hes a huge simp and has no real friends outside of whoever he is currently trying to bang

eta: then Roy punches him in the face (deservedly so) and everyone acts like Roy is the insane one lmfao, that pissed me off as well

I liked that the series acknowledged it from time to time, like when Jim realized how foolish it sounded when his pranks were read back to him.

I never felt they acknowledged how awful Pam could be, though.

His dickish qualities were fine and not something anyone else wouldn’t do. Like in that scene where Andy found out that ol girl was cheating on him and then they went to the talking heads where the two of them were gloating about who knew it first, that level of dickishness is *chefs kiss*

I think that was kinda the point. His character is suppose to inherently be a dick but not a mean-spirited one. He does not hate dwight or wish ill upon him, he is just teasing the soft target and you can clearly see at the end of the series that a genuine friendship has developed out of that back and forth relationship (and it was back and forth)

I think one episode when you can see jim realizing that perhaps his pranks have been about overboard was in the "conflict resolution" episode when Michael scott begins reading the list of complaints dwight has made about jim over 4 years. At first jim finds it funny but as the list goes on you can see that he gets less impressed with himself.

Dwight rocking him all day with snowballs is one of my favorites. Dwight > Jim, and it was never close. Pam + Jim = WOAT

I think people are hyper focused on Jim’s problems because he’s the most normal of everyone.

Michael is an idiot who would have been fired long ago for many actions he took
Dwight consistently harassed people for various reasons and damn near shot someone
Angela is super judgmental and started a fight between Andy and Dwight
Ryan and Kelly are always fighting or fricking also Ryan had a coke problem and probably the biggest dick in the show at times
Creed is well Creed
Meredith is a drunk and kind of slutty
Andy has massive anger problems
Kevin is just slow
Oscar is kind of pretentious

I never thought he was a douche, just an average guy and a bit of a loser.

Lives in a shitty town, working a generic sales
Job for a shitty company. Only chicks he can land are girls at work. Makes fun of the weird guy at work to make himself feel better.

If I worked with Jim I would get tired of his smug attitude so fast. But to be honest there aren't a lot of great people at Dunder Mifflin anyway

I feel like every young guy hosting a drinking party has been this guy at least once though. It's super relatable.

ETA: Not disagreeing with the message of OP though, Jim is definitely a douche.

Dwight was a kiss arse. He's the kid the teacher would ask to take names when she left the room and he'd actually take it seriously. He came from a family of literal Nazis.

He was also the funniest character for most of the show so he gets sympathy for that.

And we see Dwight's character evolve over time as well from the absolutely try-hard to a dude that's genuinely not a bad guy at his core. He's just different/quirky.
