This film is a litmus test for weird parenting.
Odd responses from each end of the spectrum and between.
Sorry if I should've added a trigger warning for the word "spectrum", I'm sure that's on someone's list.

I watched it on Plex.
The scene in question was all of about 5 seconds but still completely unnecessary for a kids movie.
I struggle to call this a kids movie though... While its a cartoon, it seems like its targeted to the Disney adults who can't grow up.
Yes, I watched it but more to see how leftist it was (other than the lesbo kiss, it wasn't) to determine if its kid friendly. My thought process is we can always fast forward over the lesbo scene.
But the movie was just boring... The characters were not likable, the story was bland, the twist wasn't predictable but was just utterly a reach and not good.
Animation was top notch.
Overall 1/10

Put it on for my 3 year old. He got bored after 1 minute and we put on cars 3. I don't have Disney+ though.

The scene you are referring to was barely noticeable in the context of the movie, most kids that age are not going to even notice it
The reason people didn't flock to the theater to see it is because it just wasn't very good
It was terrible without Woody and not having the original Buzz voice from Tim Allen
Plus most people probably decided to wait until it hit Disney plus these days

Surprisingly good movie. Your 9yo made a wise decision

I'm already paying for Disney+, so I MIGHT watch this now that I don't have to see it in theaters.
That being said, I'd probably only do it out of morbid curiosity. I can't contemplate how anyone was thinking, "You know who needs a backstory? The astronaut that Buzz Lightyear is designed after."
I mean, is it just me, or is it patently insane that, from what we saw of the Toy Story universe, that somehow they have FTL technology? Nothing else depicted in those movies was anywhere near that level of technology, and those movies would be set AFTER Lightyear happens (and hell, in the last one over 10 years has passed since the first one as Andy is basically grown-up).

Wouldn't this be a fictional universe within the Toy Story universe? Like the Buzz Lightyear action figure was based on a movie or TV character and this is movie about that character?
So you're complaining about the creative decisions of fictional children's sci fi writers within the overall fictional universe of "Toy Story".

I think it was dumb premise from the jump.
This isn’t the same Buzz Lightyear that kids know and love. Doesnt look the same, different setting, different cast around him. You can’t just call him Buzz Lightyear and expect kids to flock, it’s not the same character.

I don't refuse, I just have no desire. My kids haven't spoken one bit about this movie, as of yet.

IIRC, Buzz is supposed to be a real person in their universe, not a fictional character.

The problem with Pixar the last few years is that the people who made it great are all gone. Lasseter got Me Too'd and lots of his creative vision and leadership left with him.

I think the is a movie in their universe that the Buzz Toys are based on….
They actually did a Buzz Lighter space ranger show on Disney that was pretty decent.
