I searched to see if there was a thread on this classic and didn't find any so I'm really curious as to how many people have actually seen the film.

I come across this story and decided to start a thread:

LINK /

Ok..Who has seen this one? There are some bad copies on the internet. Back in the days of VHS I got a copy from Europe so I could show it to my kids.

Being born in the early 60's, I've seen this film all of my life and it's a shame that the PC culture has put this in a basement probably never to be release again.

Ironically, Disney doesn't have any problems profiting from the movie for those that have ever been to Disney World. They have a water ride dedicated to the entire film and a shop that you can buy everything related to the film except a copy of the film.

The movie isn't about slavery or the political incorrectness, it's about a little boy that misses his daddy that finds a gentle old soul in Uncle Remis that tells him story's to cheer him up.

Lovely film...

Saw it in the theater back on 1986 during one of the rare re-releases in the US, partially because my mother insisted we see it instead of Star Trek IV because she knew the chances of it hitting video were slim.

Main thing I remember was the little boy being an idiot and getting run over by a bull trying to catch up with someone by cutting across a field.

Uncle Remis has been asked to leave because he was told the he was telling the boy stories that caused him to get into a fight which Remis had broken up..He was taking a short cut through the pasture forgetting that was a mean bull that gored him.

But the film had a happy ending

It has been released on home media many times outside the US. You can buy a copy on sites like EBay or Etsy.

Same here. I don't know if it was 1986 exactly, but I did see it in the theater as a re-release. 1986 would have been about the right time frame. Other than that, I've never seen it.

great film. saw it in the theater in the 1970s and it didn't turn me into a raging white supremacist.

but this SNL skit was the GOAT

On a related note, SNL also did a commercial in the style of Song Of The South for Uncle Jemima’s Pure Mash Liquor, complete with him seeing animated birds.

Uncle Remus is a classic American character that should be celebrated. He was essentially the first black kids character I can remember... They used to show Song of the South, and all of the other classic disney films to my kindergarten as we awaited classes to begin each morning. It was great.

And you know what, I never once cared what uncle Remus' skin color was. I never once cared about the "controversial" subject matter. Know why? Because its fabricated bullshite that people have braiwnshed society into believing.

All I remember seeing was a jolly old man telling stories with cartoon animals. The fact that this movie is even an issue is pretty disgusting.

Good movie. I own it on dvd as well. But the fact that so many people think it’s racist is so fricking stupid.

You can get it on dvd for a decent price on the internet. I also remember seeing this in the movie theater when I was a kid. Not sure if it was 1986 but that seems about the time I would’ve seen it.

Saw in in the late 70s/early 80s with my dad, when it came back to theaters.

I remember seeing it in the theater when I was very young. 1986 sounds about right. Have never seen it since. I tried to watch a version online but the quality was so bad that I cut it off. The parts I was able to get through seemed very tame. Would like to see the movie in its entirety again.

I feel like I saw it in the theater as a little kid in the 80's. I know they re-released Snow White, so I'm trying to remember if it was attached to that. It would have been 87, probably for the 50th anniversary. Does that sound familiar to anyone else? I've definitely seen SOTS, just not sure when/where.

And this is why I should have read the thread first. I knew I wasn't crazy.

I opened this thread expecting to talk about the Alabama song. Boy was I wrong... I didn’t know that this existed.

"What you swattin' at?"

Classic. Tim Meadows as Sammy, and Tracy Morgan playing both Uncle Jemima and Aunt Jemima.

"Pancakes is Ready!"

we still yell that out when making pancakes at home.

First time I heard that story was actually from Savannah Smiles...

YouTube

A wonderful family movie that my grandmother took me to see in the 80's.

Exactly. It was just a story telling half cartoon half live action movie. As a kid I didn't pick up on the negatives.
