My movie for tonight, on Criterion Channel. Have heard of it, never seen. Opinions? Is this a tennie bopper type movie or can adults really enjoy it in your opinion?

Just checked Rotten Tomatoes, 22%, hmmm, may instead watch one I saw many years ago, Night of the Living Dead.

I saw it when I was a kid and it scared me to shite.

Watched it again as an adult, noticed the low production value a bit more but the movie is still great.

Def a great cult classic. Pay no attention to rotten tomatoes.

I would go into more details but might border in spoilers. It's not an in your face traditional horror movie. It's more an exploration of the terror that mentally ill people often live in. Whether their terrors be real or imagined, they're still terrors.

Thanks PEEPO, I'm gonna give it an honest shot. Usually if a movie hasn't hooked me or started to get more interesting within first 30 minutes I'll quit it.

It's great, and delivers exactly what it promises. But you kind of already have to like 70s B movie horror. Produ tion values don't bother me.

Saw that movie in the theatre when released back in 1971. Also saw "What's the Matter With Helen" which was also released in 1971. Both were pretty creepy movies.

Same here.

A few other creepy, under the radar movies from that time period: Race With The Devil; Tourist Trap; The Sentinel; It’s Alive; Bad Ronald.

I also saw it at the theater as a kid and it (for me) was just a tad behind "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" on the terror scale. It's weirdness overcomes any technical shortcomings (at least through a kid's eyes).

I was wondering if that movie would ever get mentioned here.

Underrated but excellent psychological horror film. It still holds up well today, although today’s audiences might be frustrated with how the film never really explains what’s going on. Is Emily a vampire as Jessica believes she is? Is Jessica’s husband trying to drive her insane again? If so, why? The whole town seems to be in on it. Lots of questions but not a lot of answers.

Yes that's why the film works.

Everything could be 100% happening or everything could 100% be the hallucinations of a mad woman, or it could be something in between. Maybe people are intentionally screwing with her, etc. The title implies that is likely going on as well.

Thanks to all for the excellent opinions; makes me more enthused about watching, especially since many voiced their strong underscore of the psychological aspects, right up my alley. Didn't get around to watching last night, but will soon.
