‘Batgirl’ Movie: J. K. Simmons in Talks to Return to Batman Universe as Commissioner Gordon (Exclusive)

"In the Heights” breakout star Leslie Grace has won the coveted role and will star as crime fighter Barbara Gordon aka “Batgirl” in the upcoming film set up at HBO Max.
Grace, who is Dominican-American, becomes the third Latina to be cast in a DC superhero project, following Sasha Calle joining the cast of “The Flash” in the role of Supergirl and Rachel Zegler joining the cast of “Shazam: Fury of the Gods.”
quote:
Batgirl made her debut in the Batman mythos 50 years ago as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. Since then she has become one of the most popular superheroines in the world. When Barbara Gordon was paralyzed by a gunshot from the Joker in the classic graphic novel “The Killing Joke,” other crimefighters, like The Huntress and Orphan, took up the Batgirl name while Barbara became Oracle, a tech-savvy aide to Batman. Barbara later returned to the Batgirl role, while her assault in “The Killing Joke” was retconned.

I wish they would stop hiding their shitty ideas and writing behind woke-ism.

That’s a no from me dawg. DC is so so bad with their casting decisions.
Barbara Gordon is as white bread a name as you’ll find and you’re turning her into a Latina?
Part of her charm is hot redhead.

Well at least you admit you're a racist.

We’ve not even gotten close to a legit Batgirl.
We’ve had a blonde airhead courtesy of Joel immediately into the Latina. I don’t have an issue if she was the best actress but I doubt it.
Is it so much to ask for a redhead? They are a rare species themselves.

The only difference? They never called attention to the fact that Caesar Romero and Eartha Kitt were "people of color" in the actual show. They were simply known as Joker and Catwoman. I've seen most though not all of the original Batman '66 episodes so I might have missed the one where Joker and Catwoman lecture the audience on skin color being a person's most important attribute.

Batgirl doesn't dress like that at all.

But I didn't miss the part where I realized that you were being purposefully obtuse.

Obtuse?
"Grace, who is Dominican-American, becomes the third Latina to be cast in a DC superhero project" = "skin color is a person's most important attribute"?

I missed the part where they cast a redheaded white girl to play the role that originated as a redheaded white girl. The race-swapping thing is dumb. If you want comic properties that are black or brown centric, then write them. Stop appropriating white people shite.

This bigotry in Hollywood cannot stand! Jimmy Olsen, Ariel, Mary Jane and now Barbara Gordon?!?!? This anti redhead bigotry is out of control!

I know the article claims she's Barbara Gordon, but are we sure they're not just assuming based on the most popular version?
Batgirl has been:
Betty/Bette Kane (becomes Flamebird)
Barbara Gordon (was also Oracle)
Cassandra Cain
Stephanie Brown (was also Robin)
And to lesser extent:
Helena Bertinelli (also Huntress - it should be noted she has been depicted as light skinned and dark skinned Italian at various times)
*** Interesting tidbit: The darker skinned version of her was the one actively being portrayed in comics when the Birds of Pray movie came out. DC got raked over the coals a bit for not finding a dark-skinned Italian to fill the role.**
Charlotte "Charlie" Gage-Radcliffe (goes by Misfit now)

Definitely looks like Jim Gordon's daughter.
