I really do like Les Mis. The themes and story are some of the best in any musical. I'm going to see it this weekend

I love the story and the film stuck mainly to it. The few deviations, however, seemed completely unnecessary. Why, for instance, was Gavroche the one who gave the letter to Valjean? Personally, I feel that Eponine’s death becomes that much more pitiful when she dies helping Marius get with Cosette than her dying trying to save Marius. Maybe that’s just me, I don’t know.

I can't say anything about the musical, but it's actually Gavroche that gives Valjean the letter in the book. When Éponine is shot in the barricade taking the bullet that is meant for Marius, she decides to give him Cosette's letter as she's dying. She wanted Marius to die in the barricade because if she couldn't have him, no one could have him and decided to give him the letter as she didn't want him to hate her in the afterlife.

I was surprised they didn't mention that Gavroche is Éponine's little brother.

Haven't read it in a while. Apologies. The musical has Eponine shot after handing over the letter.

I hated the beginning but it got better as it went on. Anne Hathaway is fantastic but not fapworthy. Eponine is smokin'.

I nearly walked out 30 mins in. Crowe ruined it for me.

Hathaway's I Dreamed a Dream was the first time I can ever remember thinking 'that's really good acting' while I was watching a scene.

Hathaway killed that scene. Eponine looked great. Really want to see this on broadway now.

The beginning when Crowe and Jackman were alone in their scenes made me cringe. Hathaway was great then it just got better from there.

My problem with the movie was that it felt like they rushed through it and it was still 3 hours long.

Just got back from this movie.

Disclaimer: I really like musicals and have seen a bunch of them on the stage.

But I have never seen Les Mis and never even knew what the story was about.

So I went in to it expecting to enjoy it.

But holy shite, that was AWFUL! And I mean AWFUL. I'm not talking about the acting, or the film itself, which was well made. The music was even pretty good. I'm talking about the story.

The story is just so damn boring and uninteresting. (And yes, TN Bhoy, I read your summary and even if it followed that outline it would still be extremely boring.)

It's just not a good story at all. What's captivating about it? I know I'm in the minority here because it's very popular, but I just don't get it.

On top of that, there was very little character development outside of Valjean. I truly didn't care about any of the characters.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I'm surprised I didn't fall asleep.

Ok well I just finished the movie a little while ago. Keep in mind I knew nothing at all about the plot of Les Mis. Never read it, never wiki'd it, no cliff notes: The acting was incredible. Most of the songs were good. It was a excellently put together movie. I hate musicals, but mostly when the music is choreographed and doesn't really advance the plot. Like the movie stops for a dance routine. This movie was not like that. The dialogue was mostly delivered through music.

Someone posted they disliked the story. While agree the story is straightforward and simple, there are numerous underlying themes presented. I'm sure the cliffs notes can explain them.

Anne Hathaway was especially incredible in both acting and singing. An amazing talent. She may not win an award, but that would be only bc her character is not a central figure.

I still hate musicals but I'm glad I saw this.

You don't get it because you are a cynical atheist.

Also, I am happy to be the first person in the Samantha Barks TD camp.
