I just watched it for the first time. I dont see the problems with it, honestly. It was just as good as any other Star Wars movie.
Can someone explain the hate?

If you know already that it’s a hornets nest then you should already have your answer, or know where to find it.

can you provide supporting points on why you think it holds up to specifically the Original Trilogy first

The lightsaber battles were fun. The space battles were cool. I liked Luke basically becoming Yoda to Rey.
I dunno. I just enjoyed it. I don't see Star Wars as some deep, philosophical movie franchise, though. For me it's always been about space battles, droids, and lightsabers. This had them all and the acting doesn't ruin it all like it did the prequels.

When was there a lightsaber battle in TLJ?

Wut?
You know how I know you're a slapdick?

I should clarify a battle involving lightsabers.
I thought the Rey/Ren brawl in the throne room was fun.

The one where a bunch of guys jump around for no reason and then they CGI one of their weapons away mid fight because it actually killed Rey in the battle and no one noticed?

A lot of people will start saying it's a movie pushing social issues and throw around the SJW acronym. But it's just not good, even without that stuff. The casino planet is bad. It just derailed the movie. Finn is pointless. They built up Snoke so much, and just killed him with no explanation. There's a lot of flaws.

Gotcha. I see that stuff being a sticking point.
I was watching it while taking care of an infant, so maybe I didnt give itthe full attention it needed for the flaws to be really noticeable.
I was genuinely curious after finishing it as to why it caught all the hate. I couldn't find any of the old threads and never read them when they were front page news. Figured the best way to get succinct answers was to just ask anew. I appreciate you answering with actual points.
I really just treated it as a popcorn flick and had fun with it, but when you bring up stuff like that I see why people who were heavily invested got so upset. I felt similarly about that dumbass Ender's Game movie.

I'll admit, my head almost exploded here.
Like, was Finn not saving what he loved?
So confused.

And until this line I thought nothing could out-cringe the horrific writing that was the Clown Wars.
Rian did indeed subvert my expectations.
