Kevin Spacey walks free as criminal case against him is dismissed
quote:

Kevin Spacey just won a huge victory, because the criminal case against him in Nantucket, Massachusetts has been dismissed.

According to legal docs, obtained by TMZ, the case was dropped "due to the unavailability of the complaining witness."

As we reported, the man, who was 18 at the time, claimed Spacey repeatedly groped him in a bar, took the 5th Amendment earlier this month while testifying about the incident. Defense lawyer Alan Jackson grilled him over his cellphone and whether he deleted texts that were exculpatory for Spacey. He then took the 5th.

The alleged victim had earlier dropped his civil case.

Sources tell us the dismissal was at the behest of prosecutors.

He stays out of jail and doesn't have to pay the guy off, but he's been #metooed by too many other people to get any work at this point.

Nah, he'll be back in a few years when everything's really died down. Book it.

Agreed.

I personally believe this #MeToo movement is a fad and that guys like Weinstein will be working in Hollywood again within the next 3-5 years.

He is in his 60s and left a trail of very pissed off people behind.

I figure it will take more than a few years for him to re-emerge.

Maybe he can do another project for Bryan Singer if they don’t both frick the same PA again.

How do you know he didn't pay the guy off privately?

Weinstein is done.

However, I agree most of the accused will be back eventually...if they want to be.

Guys like Matt Lauer are just going to retire into the sunset at their mansions and vacation homes.

Yeah, I hear the potted plant held a grudge.

Seriously, though, Weinstein is more a case of his power already waning before this hit thanks to shaky finances. This was just the coup de grace for the Weinstein Company.

It is easy for an actor to take a scale role to get noticed again. It’s hard for a major produce to rebuild themselves when they have been bankrupted and everyone hates them.

How do I know he didn't get out of jail by giving the prosecutor a rusty trombone?

I'm just going with what is public knowledge.

Isn’t Weinstein facing serious jail time?

I can see Weinstein starting a new company and doing small projects for netflix or one of the streaming services. Maybe even something directed by Bryan Singer and starring Kevin Spacey.

re: Kevin Spacey walks free as criminal case against him is dismissed

New York indictments On November 3, 2017, the NYPD were preparing a warrant to arrest Weinstein for his alleged rape of Paz de la Huerta, an investigation still pending as of May 2018 and unrelated to the later arrest of Weinstein.[120][121] On May 25, 2018, Weinstein was charged by New York prosecutors with "rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women." After surrendering to police, he appeared in court before Judge Kevin McGrath. If convicted on the most serious charges, Weinstein could face between five to twenty-five years in prison.[122] Weinstein was released same day on a $1 million bail. He agreed to surrender his passport and wear an ankle monitor confining him to Connecticut and New York. His lawyer Benjamin Brafman said Weinstein intends to plead not guilty.[123][122] In July 2018, Weinstein was indicted on an additional charge of "predatory sexual assault" against a woman he allegedly forced into oral sex in 2006. The charge has a maximum sentence of life in prison.[124] On October 11, 2018 a judge dismissed one of the sex assault charges.[125] The trial date was set to September 9, 2019.[126]

I could see Weinstein fleeing honestly.

He has the money and connections. I could see him disappearing to a non-extradition country.

I think he already paid the guy off, that's why it went away.
