The opening scene is the GOAT. The music is fantastic. The costumes look great and accurate for that time period. The battle was awesome.

My bro-in-law is in the opening scene as an extra soldier when they pan the line-up.

Not to quibble, but didn't they change the color of the Praetorian's cloaks to make them look "better" onscreen?
I seem to remember that being the case, but can't find it on google now. Funny, can't find a lot of things on google that I used to be able to.

Top 10, maybe top 5 GOAT movie theater experiences. I didn't know much about it (year 2000) going in and was blown away.

Ridley Scott is a master at making beautiful but historically inaccurate period films. Gladiator, while an awesome movie, isn't one I would show in a history class.

Music for that scene is great because it’s a ripoff of Gustav Holst’s “Mars” from The Planets. Still cool though.

Russell Crowe just sold a bunch of props from that movie for a chunk of money.

Two of my favorite film speeches ever

"Three weeks from now I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so.
Hold the line!
Stay with me!
If you find yourself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled, for you are in Elysium, and you're already dead!!!
Brothers: What we do in Life echoes in Eternity...."

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius,
Commander of the Armies of the North,
General of the Felix Legions,
Loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius,
Father to a murdered son,
Husband to a murdered wife,
And I will have my vengeance -- in this life or the next."

One of the greatest scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Just my personal opinion.

I was in 8th grade when it came out and I just remember one of my teachers at the beginning of class going on about how amazing it was and essentially told the whole story. She wasnt too worried about spoilers.

I remember a ton of useless stuff from my childhood and very little of anything of importance.
