The movie was...unsettling.

Parts of it were very disturbing. Other parts made me think of the Schrute family traditions.

Without spoiling it, the movie is a viewing experience you won’t soon forget.

If you are looking for a horror type movie that doesn’t conform to the typical scare format, then I think you could enjoy it.

ETA: My initial search didn’t show the other thread. Sorry!

I thought it was entertaining, but wasn't overly impressed. In my opinion it was style over substance.

I’m on the dont like it side of things. Just don’t. I guess I just don’t like Ari Aster’s directing style. I will say though the opening is absolutely horrifying and extremely effective. But there’s nothing I really find watchable about his movies.

Maybe it's just me - but I thought both Hereditary and Midsommar were incredibly overrated. So much hype on both and I didn't like either one.

SPOILERS:

It was a very disturbing scene. I can't imagine what it would be like to live in a community where you are expected to off yourself at age 72 by jumping off a cliff.

The most unsettling thing to me was that they were lured there by their friend for the express purpose of being ritually murdered.

Christian was a major a-hole, but I'm not sure he deserved to be burned alive.

THAT one was disturbing too. But I was actually talking about the sister/mother/father. There was no gore or violent content, but that long tracking scene really stuck with me and bothered me.

a big problem with the theatrical release (which is the one i saw) is that it doesn't go far enough to show how big of a dick Christian was, especially within the relationship. sure he's a dick for stealing the thesis idea, but that was his relationship with his friends

supposedly in the director's cut there is more showing how he's directly being a dick to his gf

also, a youtube video i watched recently (it was shitting on the movie) made a good point. reverse the roles of the male/female in the relationship at the end of the movie. do we think anyone would be cool with a gf being drugged and raped while being held down by men and then the bf reacts to her cheating by deciding she should be killed? THERE IS NO WAY that would have been acceptable with today's standards

*ETA: the deeper issue with the problem laid out above is that it assigns certain roles to sexes and that somewhat invalidates the point (especially on a meta level and especially for anyone who doesn't believe in sexual distinctions in relationships b/w men and women). if you look at it through a lens of a more conservative view, it makes sense but i can't believe that was the intention

LINK

Do yall know that Christian and Dani were spotted outside of a store when Toni Collette was walking by in Heriditary?

This was one year prior to Midsommar's release.

Thought this was a cool easter egg done by Ari Aster.

Spoiler:

They cut off Christian’s legs to fit him into the bear. Upon rewatch you can seem them measuring him for their removal.

I just finished and holy shite.

Basically 2 and a half hours of being uncomfortable.

It was good but I still preferred Hereditary.

Had some truly creepy moments tho.

I liked how he forced you to be in the uncomfortable trip with the characters.

The opening was insane.

the sisters face with the hose taped to her mouth was the most chilling thing in the movie.

I just watched it for the first time, and dude, i thought the exact same thing

Didn't like the that much movie though. Really uncomfortable and pretty disturbing and although a good concept with the plot, i just think it was all just a bit too much
