I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to The Shining.

The Shining book and movie are both completely different, but both are also great in different ways.

In the years since, Stephen King has taken on a weird sort of arrogance. If I could sum it up in a sentence I would say that he likes the smell of his own farts.

When I read the book version of Dr. Sleep I was really disappointed. It was a very tedious read that stuck 100% to King's book version of The Shining events.

The movie version of Dr. Sleep is greatly improved. They used King's Dr. Sleep storyline, but put it in Kubrick's telling of the events. They did throw King a bone at the end.

If you haven't read and watched both, this post may go over your head a little, but the people that made this movie got it right with what they had to work with.

TLDR: Only King appreciates his farts these days.

You didn’t go in thinking Stephen King would use parts of a movie he has let it be known he hates, did you?

By “throwing King a bone” you mean Mike Flanagan met with Stephen King before accepting the job and got his blessing to change the ending and incorporate Kubrick’s version.

You are correct in saying Flanagan improved on King’s book. He cut out all the extra stuff and made a sequel that no else could make.
