Alright, this could be the final nail in my coffin. If I were Kevin Costner, this post could be my Waterworld. With my admission that I watched the Twilight movies, you guys have already slapped the ghey tag on my arse faster the kid who peaks through his blindfold pins the tail on the donkey at a '70s era birthday party. But Juno is one of the greatest movies of all time. On any given day, it's a tossup between Juno and Inglorious Basterds for my favorite movie. Nary a wittier movie hath ever been scripted. It alone elevates Diablo Cody to Tarantino or Coen-esque status, "Jennifer's Body" be damned (well, literally, it kinda was ). Granted, a la Kevin Smith, the wittiness of Cody's dialogue crosses the border of pretentiousness like Mexicans over an Obama-guarded Texas wall.
Ellen Page was beyond brilliant, and while admittedly not as fap-worthy as ScarJo or Beckinsale in a latex or Kitty Pryde leather catsuit, her portrayal (sans belly) puts her at the top of my celebrity crush list. Juno is the textbook example of why wit and intelligence trumps a set of 36 DD's. And while I'm on Ellen Page (pun intended), "Hard Candy" is one of the most badass movies of all time.

Yea, Juno was good. I didn't like it the first time I saw it because I was kinda forced into seeing it but after seeing it a few times since, I enjoy it. Solid flick.

That's pretty much what I was expecting.
It's not like I'm alone in my thinking - it won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, was nominated for Best Picture, and Page was nominated for best actress. I was just wondering if I was alone in my thinking around HERE.

I liked it but its not one of my favorites. You're going a little too far here.

It's a great movie, no doubt. As is Inglourious Basterds (probably in my top 20). But to say its on of the greatest movies of all time is a bit of a stretch. How old are you? Have you even seen a movie made before 2000? For all intents and purposes Inglourious Basterds isn't even the best movie Quentin Tarantino has made.

I'm 46. Trust me, I've seen a lot of movies. Seen everything by Tarantino. Opinions are subjective, and for me Inglorious Basterds is far and away the best Tarantino movie - and given how much I love Pulp Fiction, that's saying a lot. And I stand behind Juno as the wittiest movie I've seen.
As far as Tarantino flicks, here's how I rank them:
1. Inglorious Basterds
2. Pulp Fiction

3. Kill Bill (don't care if they released separately - they are one movie)
4.Reservoir Dogs.

5. Jackie Brown
6. Death Proof

Gaps are intentional, and only counts if he wrote and directed it. Don't really care about other projects with semi-involvement (though I thoroughly enjoyed From Dusk Till Dawn). Fully expecting Django to rank anywhere from 1-3, and anxiously awaiting Kill Bill Vol. 3.

That was actually a pretty well written OP. While it is nowhere near even being worth of GMOAT status I really enjoy the film and will watch it if I catch it on. JK Simmons was hilarious in that movie.

Not to jump off on too many tangents, but has anyone seen Ellen Page in "Hard Candy". Awesome movie about a young girl who seeks revenge on the pedophile who killed her friend. So freaking good.

Yes we've seen Juno and Hard Candy. Both were great performances.

Have you seen American Crime or Whip It?

Saww Whip It, but not American Crime. I will watch anything with Ellen Page in it. By far the best young actress out there right now.

Nothing to be ashamed of Juno is a very good film. Ellen Page is brilliant in it.

My taste is mercurial.
I'm a fan of intelligently witty comedy. For example, Dumb and Dumber was full of laughs, but purposefully lowbrow. Superbad is imo the funniest movie ever, and very well written. But for outright wit, where practically every line is sheer brilliance, Juno surpasses anything Coen or anything Kevin Smith - the two most immediate examples of "wit" that come to mind.

Every single post in this thread gets dumber than the last, take a break from movie reviews for a while and go watch something:

quote:

NOt in the top 100
quote:

Nary a wittier movie hath ever been scripted.

Every single Mel Brooks and Christopher Guest and Cohen brothers movie says hello
quote:

It alone elevates Diablo Cody to Tarantino or Coen-esque status,

I dont think you understand Tarantino's level
quote:

the border of pretentiousness like Mexicans over an Obama-guarded Texas wall.

horrible analogy is horrible
quote:

Juno is the textbook example of why wit and intelligence trumps a set of 36 DD's.

debatable, but i there are much much much better examples of this than her. Like Natalie Potman or Rashida Jones for example.
quote:

"Hard Candy" is one of the most badass movies of all time.

The Godfather, Star Wars, Every Tarantino movie, Scarface, American Gangster, Raging Bull, Casino, Kick-arse, Independence Day, Watchman,....... say hi

It was a cleverly written movie with nice performances. It is very good. Does not rate among the greatest of all time.

Uhhh, why don't we just see what happens.
