Im gonna guess this movie does pretty decent 2nd weekend numbers off word of mouth

Would be nice. I'm not banking on it. A shame that the marketing campaign set people on a track to hate this movie without knowing a damn thing about it. It's the most pure fun adventure movie that I've seen since The Rocketeer.

Has a fantastic ending, too. Very good movie overall. I was skeptical, but came away pleased. It dragged a little at times, but it all worked out well.

I would highly recommend it.

Ya, what I meant was I think the damage is done at the movie theaters but its percentage drop off from opening week will be combatted by the people who decided to show up the next week. It will do fine as a rental I think, the movie seems to appeal to a wide audience including different ages which could give it a dedicated long term fan base. Enough to get a sequel is obviously, the million dollar question. But you can't ignore those foreign numbers, a profit is a profit.

I took the family and everyone really enjoyed this film. Fun movie and a better than expected storyline.

I saw it in 2d

I really enjoyed the movie. Deja was presented as some badass woman but eventually seemed helpless and meek.. really kind of made me not like her character. But the rest was pretty good. His jumping is a little over-the-top, as Mars' gravitational pull wouldn't be THAT low, but I tend to look past things like that in movies.

Overall, I think just about anyone can go watch John Carter and enjoy it. And I really like the way it ended, didn't see that ending coming. If you're on the fence, go watch it.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I went with my younger brother who was excited about it. I was hesitant but ended up glad I went.

My wife and I saw it the other night and we were very surprised by how good it was. I went in expecting it to be a boring cheezfest like Narnia, but it was much better than that. Great special effects and a better than expected story, and dialogue that was a little cheezy but not horrible. Good ending too.

LINK : How John Carter made me young again.

An amazing piece that spells out what makes John Carter such a wonderful movie.

LOL no. My top 5 movies are probably

1. Shawshank redemption
2. Usual Suspects
3. Empire Strikes back
4. Pulp Fiction
5. Anything with Daniel Day Lewis

Hope that helps

Empire strikes back doesn't belong, but a great list nonetheless. Your list is credible.

You were worried a 10 year old boy may be afraid of a Disney CGI Alien movie?

Finally watched this on Starz On Demand.

I don't get the hatred. It was not Schindler's List, but it wasn't trying to be. It was a good, entertaining movie. Too bad it got shite all over.

Saw it in the theater withthe family, but slept through most of the movie. From the start it just appeared to be too much "hokey" sci-fi. I finally watched it on cable last week and really, really enjoyed the movie. I wish I had stayed awake when I saw it on the big screen, cause I love the theater experience. Not an all-time favorite, but I'd watch it a couple more times.

I liked parts of it and rolled my eyes at parts of it.

Overall, it isn't a terrible film and is worth a rental or a download.

I don't have any real interest in watching again. I would have liked it much more with a hard R and plenty of naked slave chicks.

How about anything with Gary Oldman as well?

Not really at all how it went down. People that saw it mostly liked it, it's just that not many people gave it a shot because the marketing was terrible. Got 51% on Rotten tomatoes. Not great but certainly not getting shite all over.

I read that Disney only spent $25 million on marketing, and did a shitty job of it.
