J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will produce a live-action Hot Wheels film in the works at Mattel Films and Warner Bros. Pictures, the companies announced today.

Hot Wheels is a 54-year-old brand of toy cars owned by Mattel, which is billed as the world’s leading vehicle franchise, representing and uniting all segments of car culture. The upcoming feature based on the beloved IP is described as a high-throttle actioner, which will showcase some of the world’s hottest and sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles.

Hot Wheels’ iconic cars are the #1 selling toy in the world, according to The NPD Group/Retail Tracking Service, with over 8 billion vehicles sold. The brand has also proven its influence in automotive and pop culture over the years via collaborations with global leaders in automotive, streetwear, fashion, luxury, entertainment, gaming, action sports and motorsports.

Will there be a female driver who has never driven a car before but has no problem sitting behind the wheel for the first time ever and looking like Baby Driver? If not, count me out.

If this isn't a kids movie, I think they missed the target audience.

This is progressive Hollywood, ALL the cars will be villains.

Community transportation will be the hero.

This and the Barbie movie are because Mattel wants a bunch of movies made about their products. Also coming up are these

In July, Netflix will shoot the anticipated remount of “Masters of the Universe,” with Kyle Allen starring as the buff, blonde He-Man. Universal Pictures is at work on a horror franchise based on Magic 8 Ball with Blumhouse, and the studio is bringing Rock ’Em Sock ’Em Robots to life with Vin Diesel. At Paramount, Tom Hanks will embody his childhood favorite Major Matt Mason, the astronaut action figure, with “A Beautiful Mind” screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, and MGM will put forth Polly Pocket with writer-director Lena Dunham and star Lily Collins.

See. Now. They keep sleeping on a pure horror SciFi film idea incoming the Hungry Hungry Hippos game. I’d take that over this.
