JGL is not going to bash the director of Looper.
ETA: It's still a fun read.

Flawless characters feel thin. And forgive me if I blaspheme, but the young Luke Skywalker always did feel just a little light to me, which is why it was so cool this time around to see him fill out into a more imperfect human being.
Luke was cocky, rude and didn't err on the side of caution before ROTJ. I wouldn't really identify the OT Luke as a perfect human being.
quote:
We need to see that despair, hidden under a crusty front of indifference, so that when he finally decides to put himself out there and make the ultimate sacrifice, it means something. It means more than just stalling the First Order to let the remainder of the Resistance escape. Our protagonist has arrived at the end of his journey. He’s re-found his faith, both in the past and the future of the Jedi Order, and even more importantly, in himself. Again, it’s in that glaring contrast between a journey’s beginnings and its end where we find a story’s meaning.
This is great and all, but why didn't we see this in the film? They just skipped all of the stuff in the middle. Not that they really set up this feeling of despair at all anyway. I wouldn't call milking space cows, taking a swig of green milk and smiling, "despair."

And again, somebody that I’m in 100% agreement with.
This is why I don’t understand the luke character criticisms. Why does a 60 year old man have to be the exact same character he was in his 20s? Especially when something happened like it did with Ren?
Also, where’s the poster that told me no one was bitching about Luke?

He talked smack about his piloting skills to Han seconds after meeting him, when all he did was essentially drive the tractor around the fence line of the farm. ANH Luke was a whiny bitch, and no one disputes that.

15 pages.
I agree with him. Like it or not, this movie gave his character more depth.
Not every hero has to be flawless.

I expected Luke to play a more yoda-like role and was a little disappointed he was a little bit petulant.

No, but he did mention Luke was a "little light." Luke had plenty of things to overcome in the OT, things more appropriate to his age at the time. His attitude of rushing into things is what almost got himself killed in Cloud City. In hindsight, it all played into the ultimate redemption of Vader... but I wouldn't refer to him as "light."

Why does anyone give a shite about JGL opinion on a movie he had nothing to do with?
This reminds me of that Chapelle show joke when the weather Channel interviewed JaRule after a hurricane.

And yes, I, along with most people, do care more about a great actors opinion over that of a random movie watcher

His opinion is irrelevant. His opinion holds no more weight than mine.

We are all frequent users of this site who discuss movies and TV daily with each other. I don't go read other message board opinions from people I know nothing about and have no interest in talking to.

I can't think of one performance JGL has ever given that was great. He's an average actor with no range that bunch of you closeted homos overrate and fap to for no reason.
