Ultimately all the characters are pretty horrible people and why its hard for me to "like" the show. I appreciate that its well made, great writing etc but i don;t plan o watching it again, too depressing

Jesse at least had a conscience.

Maybe it was the writing, but his recklessness for the sake of suspense got really irritating. Everything he did put everyone at risk.

I warmed up to him after he was enslaved, but it's hard not to be sympathetic to a character who suffers that much.

I like EC, but Skinny Pete saying he was his hero was absurd. They could have done so much better with that scene, like alluding to when they were all in grade school or something. Instead, they seemed to lionize a guy who'd done nothing but sling meth, kill people and get others killed/arrested.

Finally watched El Camino. I enjoyed it but mostly because I had forgotten how creepy Todd is. Out of all the characters on that show I think he will be the one that I’ll remember most. Great acting job.

This thread made me realize how my views of Jesse have evolved over time. It’s a testament to the job everyone involved with this show did. I hated him that first episode. Reminded me of a couple of people from growing up. I felt bad for him when he had to kill Gayle. Even worse than I felt for Gayle himself. I grew to sort of like Jesse at the end. He’s still a loser but he at least was able to get a second chance at life.

Marie had no redeeming qualities unless you think telling people how to live their lives is a redeeming quality.

Hank and Marie were so sanctimonious and condescending to Walt and Skylar...they had no kids but loved lecturing the White's on how to raise their son.

And Hank was a smug condescending a-hole to Walt in the 1st season, treating him like he was a dumb child when Hank was the buffoon hiding behind his badge.

Todd's Life is the prequel series we need, Screw the Sons of Anarchy. I want to see Todd's dad's crew when they were younger. I want to see Todd's mom. I really, really, want to see how Todd was raised. Somebody did a great job of not teaching him right from wrong.

Another good cable show would be one where the CIA recruits Todd. Can you imagine him, with his lack of empathy operating with impunity?

I get confused about what a troll or melt is on this website. Those words are used so often around these parts.

#metoo

And for the record, to the extent that "to troll" means something loosely resembling "make a comment for purposes of garnering reaction as opposed to engaging discussion", this was most decidedly NOT a troll.

Good talk

Jesse sold Walt out. He was a traitor. Walt and Gus both manipulated Jesse to kill each other. Jesse swapped sides until Walt poisoned the kid. Without doing that, Walt and he entire family is wiped out and Jesse is dead in a few months after another chemist learns his formula. Jesse was too dumb to understand that. Gus isn't resting his whole operation on Jesse's back.

Jesse was always going to be a frick up. He was out clean with millions of dollars and couldn't find a purpose or build a life. He could have sold the house and took Andrea/Brock anywhere plus funneled money to that family. He could have hired hit men to kill Todd and the crew from hundreds of miles away with no trace or connection. Walt was right. He had no life, direction or idea what he wanted..

More fundamentally, he was purely driven by emotions, and didn't have the ability to recognize this about himself. The result is that he was just a whiny little bitch.

Totally unlikeable.

so you're saying he realized what it took to be a big kingpin (ruthlessness, violence, killing, no regard for others) and was unwilling to do so? Kinda sounds somewhat like a redeeming quality

Not when he was continually trying to get in the game.

Yeah, I don't get the Hank love either. He was mostly a condescending dick.

I have more of a soft spot for Marie. She's obviously flawed in many ways, but I almost find her endearing.

Yeah, he should’ve let Walt retire. He had nothing to gain but career suicide going after Walt. And Marie encouraged hank to go after Heisenberg. Sure, it’s her choice to do that. But she should prepare and accept whatever the consequence when playing with fire.

I think the Hank/Walt aspect of the show is the most interesting. I still have trouble fully believing that Hank would have been THAT committed to the cause to not just let it go when he found out, but Hank is such a true-believer cop that I can suspend disbelief.

Hank spent a long time searching for Heisenberg in addition to being a cop who really believed drugs were a big harm to society. And finding out it was Walt in the end who was making him look foolish, Hank felt extremely betrayed on top of all that.

I enjoyed Jesse Pinkmans character arc more than any other on Breaking Bad.

He had over the top contempt for drug users. Even when hank and Jesse were “working together” in S5, hank was ok if Jesse gets killed, saying “he’ll just be another dead junkie”.

He may have thought Walt had something to do with him getting shot as well. That's a pretty good reason to not let it go.
