EXCLUSIVE: Fox is developing a film vehicle for James Franco to play the Marvel Comics character Multiple Man, with Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg writing the script, and Simon Kinberg and his Genre Films producing along with Franco and Ramona Films, the shingle that Franco runs with brother Dave Franco and Vincent Jolivette.

The character is part of the X-Men universe, which Fox controls and continues to exploit with Kinberg at the center of all the movies. Multiple Man is Jamie Madrox, who, in the comics, conveyed his cloning powers at birth, when a second, identical version of him appeared after the doctor slapped the infant to get him to breathe

Seems like an odd character for a solo film.

Franco as Madrox is kind of perfect.

Hasn't he already appeared in an X-Men film?

If Fox is continuing to dive into unique genres/styles a la New Mutants, then this could work in a couple of weird ways. Weird Sci-Fi comedy? B-Movie sendup?

A lot of people don't really like seeing one James Franco on the screen. And now they want to put a bunch of him on screen?

He's an actor, a writer, a producer, a director, a voice artist, a painter, a student...

Madrox is fairly popular and has some fun stories he's been involved with. He even had his own solo series.

My guess is this has more to do with the character supporting some off the wall idea like Deadpool and New Mutants than it does with making a straight superhero movie.

A straight comedy with Madrox, like FK's Multiplicity reference, could work. People should be all for them making more unique superhero films, one way to do that is to get away from your Batman's, Superman's and Spider-Man core. Characters like Madrox can provide room for more individual stories.

Some of these off the grid characters are interesting for A-list actors to play.

Its also incredibly easy concept film making, like Mystique, especially for a comic book movie.

Also, the risk(budget) can be relatively low, since Franco is acting against himself mostly, with a high ceiling for profit given the star, the weirdness of the film can open in early spring (Deadpool), when "big" movies are few and even those are hit or miss.

Not a lot of continuity to necessarily ad head to either.

Also, it opens the door to the "multiple" iterations of X-Factor Mardox has been a member of....

but lets hope Disney buys the rights and folds it all in

Yup.

Think about a weird Arcade focused movie with a small unique X-Men Team. Put it in the 80's, model it off of Rollerball or the Running Man, like a Sports Movie in a twisted madhouse of challenges. Would be fantastic.

Another horror film with The Brood as the villain....or Omega Red.

You could do a crazy Longshot/Mojo movie and build Fox's Cosmic side.

Do a Noir with the Gambit solo series.

Or the grand finale - Go all slapstick/spoof with Excalibur.

Logan and Deadpool probably opened the door for the New Mutants. I'd love for an offshoot like Madrox open the door further for some really crazy stuff.

He's already playing twins on The Deuce.

So many Francos.

I love the Madrox character so I like the idea of him getting a film.

I’m just hoping they use some of the Peter David source material such as the X Factor series where Madrox is a private eye. Granted, the Jessica Jones series may be covering a lot of that same ground.

Just finished reading David's entire run on X-Factor and it was outstanding. If they use that as the source material, I'm there on opening night.

Starts with this Limited Series - Madrox

Continues in X-Factor

And finishes starting here

Just outstanding from start to finish. Really well developed characters and great story arcs.

Can't recommend enough.

Probably just the tip for an X-Factor ensemble. The used the post M-Day team as for hire detective and bodyguard stories.
