He releases something great, disappears for a few years and then releases something else great. What a guy.

quote:

ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.

This really does look awesome. A decided departure from traditional animation.

Yeah, even if the movie isn't a huge hit, I'll always support guys like Wes Anderson, Aronofsky, Nolan, etc for at least trying something different/ambitious.

I'm sure the name is famous for other reasons, but I'm just going to assume Mayor Kobayashi will be played by a menacing Pete Postlethwaithe (RIP) before he met Soze and his entire life changed. I'd watch that prequel.

Fox cancels Isle of Dog’s wide release; will only open film on 27 screens

quote:

If you were excited about seeing Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs this weekend, you might be in for a disappointment. Box Office Mojo is reporting that Fox has officially cancelled the film’s wide release, and will instead be releasing the quirky comedy on only 27 screens nationwide. The reasons for the decision are unknown, though Dogs was always going to be a tough sell as mainstream entertainment, with a PG-13 rating and unusual concept. The good news is that the movie has been scoring well with critics so far, so it’s possible it might see a theatrical expansion later. Isle of Dogs opens in limited release this Friday, where it will play alongside Sherlock Gnomes and Pacific Rim: Uprising.

I'm calling BS on this article. The source they cite leads to a "page not found."

I'll be at Big Ears all this weekend but might be able to squeeze in some time for a viewing!
