She doesn’t really have to go through a struggle; she’s just duped by the Kree. Once she “figures out who she is,” she can fly through spaceships and blow them up.

Thoughts?

Just out of curiosity, why did the whole "Mary Sue" thing start popping up so much on entertainment boards lately? I know it's not a new term, but I don't remember ever seeing it this much.

Because Hollywood can’t write good female role models so they make them Mary Sues or insufferable man haters or both.

One of the many reasons why Bumblebee was great was they had a great female lead who wasn’t insufferable, wasn’t a Mary Sue, wasn’t perfect, and felt like a normal human being.

Rey and Danvers are Mary Sues.

Those types of characters are a detriment to female protagonists

Do you believe she will later be portrayed as too overconfident like several other characters have been shown. That seems to be the primary flaw of many of the characters.

People on this board heard about during Episode VII with Rey and use it even when it doesn't make sense. I think they're just setting up Carol as some cocky hot headed girl only to get greatly humbled. Could be a interesting character arc if Marvel does it right

Yep. If she steps into end game and saves the day it will ruin years of good work by the marvel folks.

The entire Captain Marvel Movie was lame. It seemed like she was sceaming girl power every 5 minutes.

If you want to make a real movie that empowers women without an agenda, take a look at Kill Bill.

The plot carried women through that movie, not an agenda.

Now that I have stated this, go back and watch a 2nd time.

Use your brain and compare it to Kill Bill or Jackie Brown.

If you don't see the difference you're a retard.

I have dealt with you before ,so I already know what I'm dealing with.

Yeah both are much better movies, but saying Captain Marvel is screaming feminism is objectively false.

Let me help you out.

Captain Marvel is a woman.

Her mentor is a woman.

Best friend is a single black woman.

Single black female has a daughter that gives a lecture on setting an example.

They say in the movie that they weren't allowed to do the things men were allowed to do.

It goes on and on past what I have stated here. Just watch the movie.

For the record I have zero problems with women characters.

Just keep the girl power rha rha shite out or I am disinterested.

Nice cherry picking. Her other mentor who she was far closer to was a man. Fury is her biggest ally in the movie and helps her against the Kree. She also gets help from a few other male characters. You're just playing identity politics because you want believe in a narrative that doesn't exist
