Is "A Christmas Story" overrated?

Never really thought it was THAT funny. At least not for all the hype it gets.

The people who don't like this movie NEVER got a BB gun because their parents were worried they would shot their eye out.

Instead they got a PS2 or XBox360 and killed zombies from the safety of their own room.

PS- And they have never put their tongue on a frozen light pole or hot pussy.

I got a red rider BB gun when I was around 6 or 7. It sucked, I got a better one the next year. Multi pump Daisy, still have it.

You're a brave man starting this thread. It's a guaranteed downvote hurricane every time you dare criticize this mediocre movie

I know right? It's worse than criticizing Leonard Fornette, even though we all know he is mediocre.

I was thinking you were the Waterboy and I was Roberto.

I’m not into role playing.

I got beat as a child for playing with my food.

Wife and I watch it on Christmas Eve while imbibing in a fine Belgian Christmas ale. It's the only Christmas movie we care for. Christmas Vacation is good though but we rarely watch it.

It's certainly a view of Christmas that is great from a kids point of view albeit decidedly secular and even irreverent. Also some modern day SWJ issues of Dad being such a buffoon while Mom is quietly in control.

But overall a pretty cute depiction of Christmas dysfunction through a kid's eyes.

The movie isn’t even about the BB gun, set in the 40’s. I’s about the dream of a kid that wants one, so you could swap the gun for any “dangerous” toy for the last 70 year, that kids wanted for Christmas and the shite he went through to get it.

The movie has a deep place in my memory because for the last fifteen years, I sat watching/listening to this movie at 1am, Christmas Eve night, putting toys together.
