This really is the spiritual successor to Raiders. Doom, while it had good set pieces, was just a mess. It was nice to have returning characters like Marcus and Sallah instead of a nagging woman. The father-son dynamic was the cherry on top. If only they made a fourth one. Although, I guess it's fitting that the last image we have of Indy is literally riding off into the sunset.

Raiders will always be my favorite, but Temple of Doom and Last Crusade are kind of a tie for second.

I love them all, including Temple.

I’m sure that if a fourth one had ever been made I would have loved it as well.

Temple of Doom is a prequel. It's just oddly sandwiched between the other two.

Yep.

Temple
Raiders
Last Crusade.

While I love ROTLA (no "Indiana Jones" in the title on original release [some of us are old enough to remember]), Last Crusade is my favorite.

It really is too bad they didn't make another one.

You know the fourth one would have been pretty good, if they had made it.

It definitely wouldn't have been about extraterrestrial...or extra(inter?)-dimensional...beings.

The Last Crusade was always my favorite of the series.

Fun Fact: The Grail Knight was a cousin of my father-in-law. Didn't meet him though; he died eight years before I married into the family.

I've watched the trilogy on Netflix the last few nights. Raiders is my personal pick for the best movie ever made, so that should tell you how I feel there.

Temple of Doom is the weakest. It's still a good movie, but no Nazis, an incredibly annoying love interest, eye rolling stereotypes and a few action pieces a little too far over the top drag it down. It's still a solid adventure movie, you just have to grit your teeth and bear a few aspects.

Last Crusade is an excellent movie. They nail the father/son dynamic, and it's a genuinely funny movie. There's more comedy than Raiders, and good action. I rate it a little below Raiders just because Raiders set the standard with so many iconic scenes.

Last Crusade has a ton of good one liners. It belongs in a museum. We named the dog Indiana. He got lost in his own museum. You should try reading books instead of burning them.

I had such high hopes there was at least one more good movie, even Temple of Doom level good, in there.

Frankly, Karen Allen is just a much better actress than Mrs. Steven Spielberg. But, a recent rewatch of ToD makes it better than I remember. I've probably only watched the film 3 times, total, at this point and I've seen Raider at least a dozen and Last Crusade 4 or 5 times (give or take).

Last Crusade is a better follow up to Raiders than ToD and was a great way to close the franchise.

I haven't really seen it ITT, but elsewhere I see TOD get railed on. Not just for not being as good as the others, but being downright awful, which I've never understood. It's biggest problem of course is it's sandwiched in between the other 2 which are friggin fantastic. But TOD still had some badass scenes.

-The opener in the danceclub
-the secret tunnel in teh palace
-escaping the spike room
-the fire death pit
-mine cart escape
-rope bridge scene

All of those are top notch. Sure there are some eye roll parts (notably, the life raft escape from the plane) but I mean it's an indiana jones movie of course there's going to be some suspension of belief.

Good Lord, on one liners in Last Crusade, how could I forget "he chose...poorly."

I also love the first scene with Indy and his dad, where he swings in through the window and gets hit in the head with the vase.

"I thought you were one of them."
"Dad, they come in through the doors."

To your point, TOD isn't a bad movie. I think people hate on it excessively because it's sandwiched between two great movies and isn't as good as either. It still has some classic Indiana Jones stuff, though, and it nails the character.

Was it Simpsons or Family Guy that did the parody of TOD and Short Round says "You only in this movie because you banging director!"

If this board was around when Crusade was released there would be plenty of people calling it a lazy retread.

Family Guy.

I would hope Simpsons hasn't fallen that low.

What did Last Crusade do as a retread?

Other than Nazis and a religious artifact?

I've never had a problem with ToD. While it may not be as good as the others, it isn't really that much worse. "Chilled Monkey Brains."

I'll say this in Kate Capshaw's defense. I'm not sure she gave a bad performance. Someone had to notice how annoying and screechy her character was.

Willie was written like that. That isn't all on her because she carried off a character where the bigger flaw was giving her practically every scene to be whiny and irritating, and that was intentional.

I told my wife that it makes me feel horrible that I sort of like Dr. Schneider better in the realm of love interests. Yes, she was a Nazi, and that's pretty much the ultimate evil, but she was so much less annoying than Willie.
