I just started watching the Right Stuff. Haven't seen the movie in many years. One of my favorites. Awesome pro-American movie! Without Yeager, who knows what would have happened.

Anyone else recently watch it?

“Over there, is that a man?!?”

“Yeah you’re damn right it is.”

Posted this in the OT thread that was buried in 10mins. Also that Yeager was the old man at the bar asking Shearer & Goldblum if they wanted a whiskey.

I own this movie, and the sequence that moves back & forth between the giant Texas bbq & Yeager’s crash is editing greatness.

One of my favorites. Levon Helm was awesome in it too.

I'm at the part of the movie when the initial astronauts are giving a press conference. Let me say this...Those men had a lot of balls to ride on a rocket filled with jet fuel under their arse. God Bless America. Those men are hero's.

The book is so much better than the movie. It made the movie unwatchable for me, only finished 3/4 of it.

The book is currently on sale on audible fyi

One of the more noteworthy Oscar snubs. Great movie.

I'll have to take the time and read the book.

And despite that movie being over 35 years old and itself portraying events largely 25 to 35 years earlier than that, Chuck has outlived Sam Shepard and Levon Helm.

National Geographic is currently filming season one of a scripted series based on the book. I think it will be released later this year.

It struck me as I typed “old man” that the guy is still kicking.

Trivia that I may have posted before, but they lost a stunt guy in the NF-104A scene.

Leonard Joseph Svec was an interesting dude and a real deal GI Joe.

Same site’s write-up on Yeager’s crash.

That sequence is a masterpiece. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
