If you went by this metric, some of the greatest TV shows ever made would never have been made. There would no wacky shows about 2 people getting into a road rage incident or political dramas like House of Cards. On the face of it, they didn't look like winners and looked like obvious losses.

You have a point, which I had thought about, which is why I said “obvious” losers. But I suppose that can be pretty subjective on the front end. But sometimes not.

Elon Musk and Omar Sharif would like a word...

Elon Musk's family moved to South Africa from England in the Early 20th century.

Omar Sharif's family moved to Egypt from Greece and Lebanon.

Cleopatra was predominantly Macedonian Greek with a small amount of Persian and Sogdian (Iranian) ancestry.

So...Musk, Sharif and Cleopatra's families all mostly came to Northern Africa (Egypt) from Europe.

Nah, they just enslaved people that they conquered. There's a lot of roman material about Carthage and several different African tribes. They don't talk about the skin color in any of those that I've read.

It's not an odd statement, it's one that explains why the race of Cleopatra is in question. People didn't write about race, so ultimately we have no idea what they looked like, it's all speculative

ETA: The most famous example of Egyptians putting people into slavery is in the bible and it has everything to do with a religion. Slavery has been around since recorded history and only recently has it been thought of as something that affects only black people. Every single human alive has a slave somewhere in their background

It's also almost certainly not true.

The Exodus story is almost certainly not an accurate story, but there is little debate that Ptolemy 1 invaded Judea and took back thousands of slaves to Egypt

On top of this being a Jada Pinkett production,

This is all you have to say for me to decide not to watch it (unless for some reason the word of mouth is very favorable). I don't care about the skin color of the character / actor.

Okay, but even if true, that has nothing to do with the biblical stories.

Then you enjoyed being lied to, huh?

Cleopatra wasn't a character.

How do people not grasp this very basic idea?

This has been the 'in' thing for Hollyweird as of late. The writers for She-Hulk were giddy that actual fans OF She-Hulk were rightfully angry at how bad the show was, they beamed about predicting the backlash well before the series premiered.

Same for Rings of Prime, who talked out of both sides of their mouths, same with Obi-Wan and again with Velma.

They ALL purposefully trashed the series/ characters so they could then cry crocodile tears about racists and man-babies. And the weirdos admit it gets them aroused.

Except Cleopatra was famous and we have contemporary depictions of her. We don't know exactly how she looked, but we have a fairly decent idea.

I thought the thread title said it all. If a creator has to pre-emptively blame the shittiness of their product on potential viewers, that's all I need to know to avoid their product.

This is not something anyone cared about or wrote about during her reign, so any arguments, like the one you're contributing, are stupid, modern speculation bullshite that don't really make sense for the world about which you're arguing.

Ok so what’s your idiot defense to this bit of wokeness here? Or are you now going to pretend her race is also in debate?

If you could be honest—which I realize would be problematic for a prog—you’d simply acknowledge that leftist Hollywood producers don’t like white people. It’s really quite that simple and you wouldn’t need to contort yourself into idiotic justifications for race swapping.

While true, the fact that Cleopatra was of Greek decent specifically one that was heavy into inbreeding comparable to the Targaryens, it’s kind of the obvious answer that she was white or a tan white at most
