If the exorcist were made today, would it get theatrical release?

Ok forget the special effects. Fine for their time but bad by todays standards.

I'm talking about the subject matter. The content.

In todays social climate does a preteen girl tell a priest his mother "sucks cock in hell"? Also does the same preteen girl masturbate with a crucifix until her vagina bleeds?

Well for the uninitiated, that's the exorcist and when it came out, it got wide release.

I can't imagine THAT movie being made today and hitting theatres.

Your thoughts?

They have released much worse since then, so yes.

It wouldn't have the same effect today as it did 40+ years ago. People don't fear god and the devil like they used to. People see evil every time they turn on their tv or click on a link. Submersion therapy has jaded this society.

Theatrical release though?

Dvd for sure but I don't think i've ever seen anything remotely like preteen bloody crucifix masturbation at a movie theatre.

They sure did, didn't they. I like a movie that ends well and that one did.

Ok. What about this. I'll set it up. See if this sounds familiar. Maybe you can guess the movie.

Two young girls are talking.

Girl 1: "I french kiss"

Girl 2: " So, everybody does that".

Girl 1: "Yeah but my dad says i"m the best at it".

Do you believe something like that makes it into a movie theater nowadays?

I think the exorcist would be made but in it's current form, not get theatrical release. The standards are different for theatrical and dvd releases. Graphic movies are buried in the dvd world everyday and no one notices. Put bloody preteen crucifix masturbation in your local carmike and people flip the frick out, don't you think?

We live in hypersensitive times and I don't think the subject matter would be tolerated if put out there for all to see.

Ya I'm not sure either. I don't think Netflix releases for a Halloween Netflix original either kind of like what they did with Bright on Christmas.

Google Anti-Christ. People were literally passing out during the release at Sundance. It's the most disgusting movie I've ever seen. Couldn't finish it
