Re-watching Life of Brian tonight. If MP were still around, what gems would we have from them today given current global affairs?

I'd like to think they wouldn't have gone full SJW/Antifa, but who knows. Given how politically incorrect they were, I'd hope not, but it's a different world now. Enjoy their clips on youtube while they last.

An all white male comedy troupe in 2020, that's rich. Too many white men simply existing in the same place at the same time is a hate crime now.

If Monty Python were still around, they'd be cancelled.

Two of the Pythons (Graham Chapman and Terry Jones) are already dead and the remaining three are very old.

Well, yeah. I assumed most already knew this.

Maybe if they were still younger but John Cleese turned out to be a cuck in his old age - so if they were still around; they wouldn't be mocking SJWs, they'd still be mocking what they see as power.

Michael Palin has slammed the BBC's culture of political correctness after one of its comedy bosses said Monty Python were too 'white and Oxbridge' for modern TV.

Earlier this year BBC comedy commissioner Shane Allen hit the headlines for saying the famous comedy group 'wouldn't be six Oxbridge white blokes' if they were re-cast today.
quote:

'He was obviously manoeuvred into saying something silly. What does he mean? If you've had a good education and you're white you're not able to write comedy?

'What are they going to say? 'Oh God! The man who wrote that's an Etonian. But it's hilarious. It's no good, he's an Etonian!'
quote:

He said that times have changed considerably since he first started out in television.

He told The Radio Times: 'Then, a couple of people liked what we did and gave us 13 shows. There were no conditions.

'Nobody said, 'Can we see a script?' Now it has to go through half-a-dozen stages.

'They want to know what you're writing about, how long it will take, how much it will cost.

He added that all new TV has to be 'checked for political correctness, 'compliance' and diversity'.
quote:

Former Python comic John Cleese reacted to Allen’s comments by saying on social media: “Unfair! We were remarkably diverse for our time.

“We had three grammar-school boys, one a poof, and Gilliam, though not actually black, was a Yank. And NO slave-owners.”
quote:

Terry Gilliam has responded to the BBC diversity debate which referenced Monty Python by saying: “I tell the world now I’m a black lesbian.”

When I read those I heard them in their voices.

I think most of you are desperately trying to pigeon hole them into being "full Left" or "full Right".

Monty Python was neither. They simply said what they were thinking and didn't give a damn if you agreed with them or not.

Terry jones has a short series on medieval history on YouTube if that’s your kinda thing. It’s really well done and since he was a medieval historian it’s actually filled with really interesting info.

I saw John Cleese speak on stage for about an hour after a showing of Grail a year ago or so at the Saenger in New Orleans. If you go on Twitter he's politically quite anti-Trump, but he's absolutely still politically incorrect. In fact he spent half of this time on stage attacking the politically correct crowd and telling hilarious jokes to prove his points. The jokes very intelligently made fun of left, right, and various ethnic persuasions.

Monty Python, and for that matter Mel Brooks, would have a field day nowadays. They both skewered every aspect of society they could, and there are plenty of targets today that are ripe for the picking.

I'd say, change that to "they simply said what EVERYONE was thinking, but scared to say", and you got it.

We'd definitely be seeing mockeries of both sides.

I am surprised in the age of Youtube, the survivors haven't gotten together and done a couple of sketches.

I bet they still got it.

When I think of Monty Python, I think of witty, silly, and more than a bit absurd.

Social critic comics they were not. They weren't South Park, or SNL. That wasn't their core schitck.

Sure, they had a few political skits here and there, but they poked fun at it from a 10,000 foot view. They didn't direct it at one party in particular.

South Park really has been a continuation of Monty Python in a lot of ways, at least in spirit. Monty Python did get somewhat political at times, though it was hard for American viewers to pick up on a lot of it. But they did the same thing as South Park, make fun of both sides, and make fun of Authority more than anything else. Most of the surviving Pythons have expressed admiration for South Park, and Parker and Stone were huge Python geeks when they met.

They've done several reunions that are fun. I binged on 5 or 6 of them (Netflix I think) while on a trip and smiled the whole time.
