I saw black panther last night
I liked all the world building stuff. There's some really bad CGI though.

I’m so sorry. One of the most overrated movies of all time.

It has about 45 minutes or an hour that’s as good as anything in any Marvel movie. It devolved into a cgi battle fest at the end though

A guy tackled an armored rhino.

All arguments are invalid.

Not sure how true it is, but I heard the CGI in Black Panther is poor because the best people were working on Infinity War at the time.

Some of the worst CGI scenes in the MCU to me... which is disappointing because BP's CGI in Civil War was awesome.

I know. Loved the movie but the freaking CGI just pissed me off. That and the Wakandan soldiers not wearing helmets to battle irked me.

i like BP just fine. standard for Marvel, which is better than most.

but people that lauded the CGI make me laugh. it was turrible. it's like Bohemian Rhapsody winning best film editing turrible. or interstellar getting nominated for sound mixing turrible.

I didn't care for BP. It's pretty far down the list of marvel movies.

The costume department was on point for the movie though. Mostly excellent.

Black Panther was awesome. I kind of feel like nitpicking that final CGI battle is just that. Nitpicking because you are trying to find something to harp on.

That being said, it’s a top third Marvel movie for me.

I agree with you that it was really good and I top third Marvel movie. But I don't think pointing out the bad CGI battle is nitpicking. It's an absolutely legitimate gripe. The movie really fell off in the last 30 minutes and I think that's what holds it back from being a top level Marvel movie. The CGI was terrible and the climactic battle just wasn't good.

I don't think it's nitpicking to say it was a good movie that just didn't stick the landing

Fair enough to say it didn’t stick the landing. I’ll agree to that point

Exactly. There are a few things that (for me) hold it back from being a higher ranked MCU movie for me. But that is just my opinion. Not saying it wasn't good, but it wasn't as good as some have made it out to be though...

Costume design was top notch though. Absolutely a well-deserved Oscar win.

It was, but only because of how people were rating it. People acted like it was the best Marvel movie ever. It was nominated for an Oscar. I even heard someone say it was one of the best movies of all time.

These type of comments are what made the movie overrated. If you ignore all of this, it was a pretty enjoyable movie. The movie was well done, but not perfect by any means. The final fight left alot to be desired. I believe I ranked the movie at either 8 or 9 out of all the MCU movies made.

Too much of the people making it acting as if it was some great social statement. If the statement was “ we stood by while the continent was looted and enslaved and didn’t lift a finger”, then they got it right.

Other than that it’s a run of the mill MCU action flick with black actors.

I really liked the Ethiopia slum city of the future look.

You can imagine if the Wakandans were American indians the production team would have constructed 300 story high Teepees where everyone rides on flying metal horses and wears nano-tech loincloth.

Wakindians stacked. Custer even more fricked.

Bad CGI, crummy villain, and boring characters. Black Panther has no personality and the surrounding cast, except for the one rival chieftain, lacked the sense of humor I’ve come to enjoy from MCU movies.

Still better than Iron Man 3 though.
