I just turned on one of the most culturally relevant movies of the late 90s

Rush Hour.

It’s a a big how moody cinematography used to be before digital cameras. Yes, that was my first reaction to turning the movie on.

All three were added to HBOMax not too long ago. Sat and watched them all one Saturday night a few weeks ago.

What happened to Chris Tucker?

He did stand up for my company about 5 years ago at one of our conventions and it was cringeworthy

Don't care what anyone claims, digital has sucked the texture and life out of so many pictures today that eveyothimv looks like a stale, too clean copy of everyone else. Movies now are virtual indistinguishable from TV unless they are in the hands of true masters like Deakins, who can light for it properly to give off close to the same atmosphere.

Even big blockbusters, not even art house films, looked so much better 20+ yrs ago. I even like old analog sound better. It seemed richer and clearer.

Jackie Chan's action scenes are so damn entertaining.

Also this movie was legit hilarious. It was funny when I was 11 and it is funny now.

In the good old days they would use long lenses for closeups which allowed them to move the lights closer to the subjects and have better lighting. Now that they have 8k digital they are being lazy asses and shooting everything wide angle with the same generic lighting and then cropping in post production for "closeups".

Here’s a tough one.

Rush Hour or Shanghai Noon?

God I love both movies.

My instinct is Rush Hour. I think Chris and Jackie have better chemistry than Owen and Jackie. Both are great, though.

War Machine calling him 7/11 always gets me.

Whenever I hear 150, no matter the context, I always say “a hunndit and fiddy million dollars??!?”

Shanghai Knights is funnier and has better action. Rush Hour works better on its own as a complete package

It really is kinda shocking how much Chris Tucker (and everyone else for that matter) points his gun at people with his finger on a trigger. I can’t tell if it’s a joke or meant to be taken seriously. But I’d pretty crazy
