In all my years, I have never watched “The Real World” but I stumbled on it on Netflix the other night so decided to check it out

The season they have on Netflix is Portland

Now, I have watched Jersey Shore, Floribama Shore, etc (which I loved - yes, they are all trash TV) - so I now understand how those shows came into fruition- they are basically the same but with different formats/themes.

Back to “The Real World” Portland. I seriously could not turn the show off. I binged through all of the episodes. But after, I did some researching and found out that Portland was one of the worst seasons lol

I kind of got a crush on Avery and that cat fight at the end was just epic.

So I then went and watched the very first real World in NYC (I think it was made in 1993ish) and wow it’s just crazy how times have changed from then to now. If anything, I think I am more into the nostalgic aspect of the show then the actual show itself.

Anyways, I just thought it was an interesting show and I remember it being so popular back when I was in HS but I just never watched it or got into like many people I know did.

Pretty much how I remember all this mess starting. I forget her name, a cute brunette from AL & 'Kevin' getting into a heated argument is what I remember most.

Weird how it took another 7 years or so for Survivor to make the scene.

I started watching real world in early middle at the end of Philadelphia season. First real season was Austin I watched and the last was Portland.

It was good for what it was but what made it better is that you get to watch there people develop and grow as young adults as they go on The Challenge and you see complete story arcs on them.

Ex: CT going from straight thug/bad boy in real world Paris, getting in fights. Going on the challenge, getting kicked out for fighting. Then meeting diem. Diem going through cancer and CT turning into a nice man who will do anything for her. Watching him grieve over her death. Then see him become a family man and have a kid, with a dad bod. Then get in the best shape of his life and win back to back seasons at 40+.

Unfortunately paramount + is missing a lot of the early seasons. And we will never get the real world again cuz they cast would get cancelled so fast

Those shows can definitely hook you. I’ll go through a phase pretty often and binge out on a season. You should also check out the Challenge shows for another angle.

“Nostalgic Reasons” meaning for example

I just started season 7 (I think) and it’s in New Orleans

There is a segment where the nerdy dude is talking to the innocent chick from Wisconsin and he is bragging about his computer back home being 128MB of RAM and a massive 600MB processor lol

and then they show this little robotic dog (that must have been a huge thing back then) and when they saw it then all freaked out at how cool it was.. and it’s the cheesiest fricking robot I have ever seen ( it back then it was amazing and new to them)

I think this New Orleans season was filmed in 2000 (23 friggin’ years ago) - that’s just crazy to me

Hawaii was my favorite. I was in college, so was about the same age as them and definitely partying all of the time. I even was telling all of my friends I would like to try to get on the show, but I never really tried.

It's a deceptively enticing series. I stumbled onto the first episode of Season 3 on MTV, and thought it was interesting to see them all meet. Then a second episode started and I thought, "I'll watch this till I fall asleep." Turns out it was a marathon and my wife found me still watching Real World the next morning.
