I finally got around to watching Creed 2.

As a huge Rocky fan, and compared to Creed 1, I found it really really meh. I was expecting a better in movie soundtrack being a rocky movie.
I was expecting some of the old Rocky IV training music or something similar.
Felt bad for Ivan and Viktor when Ludmilla walked out on them during the match. He lost all the drive he had left.

But admit it, the part of the final fight when the rocky theme starts playing was pretty great.

Spot on. It was really only meh for die hard Rocky fans. If you watched this by itself it would be hot garbage.
The first and 2nd Creed feel like they are reaching really hard to bring in a new demographic with all the rap music.
As a die hard Rocky fans it annoys me, and I feel like the demographic they are trying to reach probably feels more like it's their parents trying to act cool.
It just feels really forced.

2 was just simply not compelling at all. Whatever sly had, even in the later rocky films, Jordan just can't capture. You don't really care if he wins or loses. I wasn't rooting for Drago, but I wasn't not rooting for him. He was actually made into a somewhat sympathetic figure by the end with his birch mother and his loyal father.
I also think it really hurts that Jordan simply can't act. Carl Weathers has 1000 times the charisma and personality as he does. Creed 1 was a very well made movie and I liked it a lot, but it was essentially a continuation of Rockys story more than anything else. Creed 2 was more about Creed and it just kind of fell flat.
It also just goes to show you how extremely effective music can be in a film. Yes, the original rocky score is one of the most iconic and perfect movie scores ever, but even rocky 3 and 4 knew what buttons to push with the original songs and tone. Now, films seemingly have forgotten how to compose great scores and amplify the final product.

Creed was a decently done movie, as was Balboa, Stallone knows how to do this. But I'm never going to understand Michael B. Jordan's popularity or supposed charisma, he has none of the appeal or screen presence that previous characters had.

He isn’t Javier Bardem or anything, but I must be the only person who enjoys almost everything he is in

Yeah, I actually liked both Creed movies, but this would have been better served being called Drago. He was really good and seeing Ivan on screen again was incredible. Very interesting seeing how the Soviets cast him aside and he lived in disgrace all those years.
The first Creed was great because it was still really about Rocky and the lasting demons from what happened with Apollo.
The drama here seemed much more manufactured between Rock and Donny, and the drama between Adonis and his girl is pretty off the charts with melodrama. The baby stuff felt rushed and probably should have waited until the next chapter to get into all of that imo.
That said, I actually thought the fight scenes were pretty damn awesome, and Drago is the best and most intimidating opponent he’s ever faced and on par as a character with Apollo and Ivan.
As good as the story of the first Creed was, I found his opponent pretty forgettable. So while the story here wasn’t as compelling, from a boxing standpoint it left me even more satisfied.
Add in the fact that you actually feel sympathy for Drago and that makes the movie another hugely successful chapter in the Rocky universe.
Interesting comments on Michael B and his charisma or lack of it, especially compared to Apollo. He’s a solid actor imo and I’ve liked him ever since The Wire, but I can see the complaints that some may have with his sort of maudlin affect on screen.
Sly always played Rock with a sort of childlike optimism despite his rough exterior and environment. You don’t get that with Donny, despite him being pretty sheltered and pampered since about 6 or 7, so it comes off as pretty petty and spoiled for him to have this big chip on his shoulder all the time, which ultimately just makes him harder to like and root for in the same way we did for Rocky.
That brings up my biggest complaint of this new saga, and thats the fact that we never see Rocky have his face to face with Claire Huxtable about Apollo’s death.
We’re told specifically they haven’t spoken since the funeral, and she sends him that letter to get him to help Donny in the first one, then he shows up in L.A. at her house in this one to meet with Donny, so we have to assume they talked, but didn’t get to see it.
I think that was the last real emotional piece we deserved to see from Sly in this character, so I’m just not sure why they left it out in both movies.
We know he isn’t great with words, so even just seeing him tear up and kind of mumble “sorry” and her just giving him a hug would have been enough. Just something to show us him confronting that ghost and getting some closure.
Oh well TLDR, I love me some Rocky

I have never seen a single Rocky movie but I saw Creed when it came out bc nothing else was in theaters. I know, I am a piece of shite. Might watch them all today on fire stick.
How much am I missing out on?

Aw man Rocky is an outstanding series.
The first movie is a legit drama/character study. Not really much actual boxing although there is a good bit of training. Just don’t go in expecting some big action movie with a bunch of fight scenes.
It’s just a great great film. Expect some of the 70s grittiness to it that may not have aged as well depending on how old you are. But it won Best Picture for crying out loud. Read up on the story of how Sly got it made and it will add to the experience
If you like the original and are invested in the characters of Rocky, Adrian, Pauly, and Apollo, you’ll love the rest as well.
II is similar to the first but a bit more boxing. Great sequel that really is more of a continuation of the original.
III is great as it really fleshes out Apollo as a character and expands their relationship, but it definitely takes the series in a kind of more action based direction.
IV is the pinnacle and really brings it into a fully 80s action frame of mind, but the heart of the character still gives it more weight than you’d think. Plus the backdrop of Soviet Russia and the Cold War is timeless and awesome
V is the least appreciated but I still like it. Basically tried to do Creed 20 years too early and had too much late 80s/90s cheese. But still worthy of the series imo and provides a decent bridge to the later installments.
Balboa was shockingly good, considering the premise was so absurd. But it’s all about the character, and it was great seeing Sly slip into the role again. Fantastic boxing scenes, whereas before that the boxing itself was always pretty sloppy and not realistic at all.
Set the tone for the cool boxing style they’ve developed and perfected for the Creeds.
Honesty Rocky is one of the best and probably most complete look at the life of a character in cinematic history.
We’ve followed his life from a young Street tough in the early 70s to a huge superstar athlete in the 80s and the highs and lows that come with that type of fame, to late middle aged has been in Balboa to a practically elderly old widow in the Creed installments. It’s incredible honestly.
Other than Michael and Vito to an extent in The Godfather saga, I really don’t think there is as complete of a look at the life of a single character in cinema history.
So watch that shite

Very well stated IMO

I actually really enjoyed Creed 2. The training montage left a lot to be desired, and I wasn't a fan of the music( i know they want a more Urban feel with Creed as opposed to Rocky franchuse, I'm ok with that. They still could havr done a better job).
It's not a top 3 Rocky movie by any means, but it is still an enjoyable movie that I would rewatch.
My only question is if they want to make Creed into an entire franchise as well, can Michael B shoulder that? In Rocky 3, is when Mickey died I believe. So if they do a Creed 3, I'm afraid we would likely officially have to say goodbye to our friend Rocky on the big screen.

The music in Rocky 4 is insanely cheesy.

Haven't seen 2 but didn't care if he won or lost in the 1st one. Plus he's annoying AF. He has one facial expression and emotion, pissed off at the world over nothing.

My only complaint would be that it seems out of character for Rocky to be so estranged from his son. Rocky, as a character, never seemed like the type to let people he loved go so easily.
Other than that, another fine addition to the franchise.

his girlfriends music about ruined it for me. her singing during his ring entrance was cringeworthy

How they handled it in Rocky Balboa made a lot of sense. Problem is they also needed him to be alone for Creed.
