How the hell did Bohemian Rhapsody win Best Editing?

Seriously, it’s one of the most poorly edited films I’ve seen in quite some time. Just bewildering nonsense editing that a freshman in film school could do better. List a film at random this year and I can almost guarantee it was better edited. I can’t think of a single movie I saw last year that was more poorly edited.

Seriously look at this scene. It’s like a fricking pinball machine. It goes all over the place, there are a few wide shots right in the middle for no reason, and focuses on anything at random. This has to be the worst Best Editing winner of all time: LINK

Consolation prize.

With all the hype it received, they needed to justify with some award.

are most of the academy voters even qualified to recognize good editing?

Not sure either. I didn't really like the movie. But my biggest complaint t about the whole thing was the live aid concert. It was just like a 20 min Queen concert and I was just ready for that part to be over way before it actually ended. That part was just entirely too long.

This. I'm guessing that none of the other nominees jumped out to them. I though Vice would win just because it's editing was so unusual and "fun".

So you didn’t like one of the more impressive parts of the film? How accurately they got every movement in during the concert?

More outrageous is the sound editing award. The editors of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY had to cut the soundtrack from people talking to old recorded footage of Queen. Meanwhile, the sound techs on A STAR IS BORN recorded the music live at real music festivals with an actual audience yelling over the mics. They had to mix sound from them talking to a live performance, using the same damn mics and sound board. That's an impressive achievement.

Yeah. This might be up there with Gravity as far as pre-Oscar hype level.

I haven't seen the film but saw the mash-up side by side of the real live Aid and the film's live Aid...and as I mentioned earlier, the TV's live Aid was shot better...and edited better.

The final scene in the movie is edited and shot so poorly.

Black Panther had really bad, if not some of the worst, CGI (and i like the movie a good bit) in a Marvel movie but was still nominated for special effects and won for production design... of entirely badly CGI'd screens.

Watches a movie about Queen. Too much music.

The Oscar nominees can only be made by people in that discipline - for example, editors nominate films for best editing, writers nominate in the writing categories.
Any Oscar voter can choose winners in every category, but people are encouraged to stay out of the fields they don't know much about.

it's not a day on the Movie/TV Board that OMLandshark isn't bitching or whining about something in a movie.

To be fair it’s usually something DCEU or Star Wars related which makes it easy. I don’t think I’ve really complained about this movie until it won this award, which is simply absurd. Black Panther by all means deserves this award more than Bohemian Rhapsody.

I just can't understand what the hell came over voters so much so that they almost completely disregarded Star is Born. Even if you didn't think the film was bets picture worthy, the technical stuff they had tonpull off, as well as the acting is just flooring.

The sound mixing, as stated above, from a technical standpoint was easily superior to bohemiem rhapsody. They're actually fricking singing live!! And they had to give it a cinema-quality mix!!

Malek was fricking lip-synching!

Probably not.

But the Motion Picture Editors Guild is. And their annual awards ceremony - the American Cinema Editors Awards - saw the Eddie for Best Edited Feature (Dramatic) go to.......Bohemian Rhapsody.

Deadline article

Just admit it. Most of you who hate Bohemian Rhapsody are just butthurt fanboys of A Star is Born who are sad they didn't get to see Bradley Cooper propose to Lady Ga Ga after winning the Oscar for Best Picture.

It was poorly edited because it had events happen out of order.
