How Did I Miss "The Crown"? Great show.

I have a great wife that allows me my fall football season as long as we watch shows she wants for the rest of the year.
We kept hearing good words on "The Crown" but always picked something else (usually Sci-fi). We just finished "The Whitcher" and that was a fast watch so we finally decided to try "The Crown" and it's fantastic.
Being a history junkie I should have been all over this. I think I was expecting a "hypothetical" Monarchy rather than a very accurate telling of the events of the Windsor Family starting just before Elizabeth II took over.
We are deep into season 2 and are looking forward to getting caught up with other followers of the show.

It's an excellent show with top notch production values and phenomenal acting. The writers did take some creative liberties with some aspects of royal life, but it does seem to be fairly accurate, all things considered.
I just finished watching Season 3. The new cast took a bit of getting used to, but they did a great job, particularly Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter. The actor who plays the young Prince Charles is spot on, and one of my favorite new characters is Princess Anne. I hope she gets more screen time in Season 4.
They actually make you feel sorry for Charles, in how he was manipulated by the senior royals, particularly his grandmother.

On accuracy I was speaking more to the actual historical events of the time rather than the liberties of Royal life. I could have explained that a bit better. I found myself looking stuff up online as I was watching the show to verify those things I wasn't fully aware of. Very refreshing.

Yes
I've really enjoyed the history and some of the back stories surrounding those times. That mine disaster with the school kids, Wow! I had no idea about that story.
It's not sensationalized like I thought it would be
Can't wait for Diana to enter

I actually started it this weekend, and almost through season 1 I love it. Reminds me how much of my British History class in undergrad I forgot.
The acting is fantastic. Philip has been a very interesting character so far, with lots of depth.

The new cast threw me off so much. Only watched a few episodes of S3

Gillian Anderson as Thatcher in Season 4! Can’t wait!

The show does a good job of driving home the point that the Royal family may have fame, money and even some power, but they have absolutely way less freedom to live their lives how they want and when and where they want compared to the rest of the public.

It’s a subject that I never cared about, but the show is wonderful. Beautifully acted, directed and shot.

Absolutely love this series. The jump in characters due to age in season 3 was weird to me.

S3 is great. The queen is fantastic. She’s the main cop in Broadchurch which was one of my favorite series

Great show. My wife made me watch the same way. What keeps me interested is the historical accuracy, the AMAZING casting in that they look Very similar, and the fact they’ve planned it out for every 2 seasons or so they replace the actors/actresses with older people to show the progression of time over the decades.
They’re planning for a long term series

Same here. Her role may be entering the series next season? Seems about the right time frame.

I believe you're correct. I recall an article where the writers said that a big part of Season 4 will be the relationship between Charles and Diana. If Olivia Coleman is playing the Queen in Seasons 3 and 4, I'm curious who they'll get to replace her for the final 2 seasons. Maybe Helen Mirren?

One of the things I wished they would have covered in the past season was the kidnapping attempt on her. That would have been fun to watch.

Just a few opinions so far-
The casting has been phenomenal. I’ve come across sympathizing with Philip and Charles more than I ever thought possible.
I think it’s very interesting the parallels that are drawn between Charles and King Edward VIII.

The Crown was great to watch for the historical references along the way. It was well-researched.

They casted her. It's Imelda Staunton (Delores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series)

Yep. They are definitely portraying Charles in a very sympathetic light. I never knew that his mother, uncle, and grandmother conspired to keep he and Camilla apart from the beginning. The scene where he's speaking with Wallis and she tells him to watch out for his family, because they don't mean well was very prophetic.
