The show just devolved into a transient conspiracy-theory- plot-driven cliffhanger, trying too hard to create suspense and intrigue.
It appears that way, which is sad because it had potential.
They covered all of the Middle East Muslim Terrorist story lines already between Iran, Pakistan, a captured and converted US soldier, and the beginning of a domestic jihad terrorist (they should have spent more time on that last season instead of trying to pigeonhole the POTUS assassination attempt in).
The O'Keefe/4chan conspiracy plot actually had a lot of potential. They could have easily built on the hacker releasing the photos from her computer, or even selling them to the "Russians" to use and blackmail the country. That could have been topical without getting too politically bias, and they have a lot of real life material to use (they could take the whole Q thread on the Poliboard and turn it into a great season).
I don't care anymore that Carrie is crazy, that adds nothing to the plot or her character development. What would add to it is her developing on her own completely for the first time with no Quinn, Saul, Max, or anyone and doing some old school spy work.

That the writers still apparently think Carrie's mental illness is some asset rather than a huge anchor on the show is bizarre.
I'd completely forgive them if she just became a normal character and we act like it never happened.

Like six minutes into episode three and the Carrie drama is intolerable. God her storyline is awful.

This was actually the first time I felt sorry for her. I guess since she was doing her meds like she was supposed to and it wasn't working is why I felt that way. I can't imagine how being that helpless to something would feel.
Thought it was a pretty good episode. The obvious show of force like Waco on the 25 year anniversary was a bit much IMO. But, I've enjoyed this season so far, much more than last season.

I know it seems odd to bitch about a central theme of a show seven years after it began, but it's just painful to slog through 25 minutes of Carrie's shite in every episode. While it would still be bizarre in a show like this regardless, it'd be more tolerable if there was something fresh about it. But we've seen her struggles as a bipolar mother for 3-4 seasons already. I don't even know how she's relevant to the show at the moment. Obviously Allen's return and previews for next week begin to advance that, but through 3 episodes it's pretty much only her creating personal conflicts in minor storylines.
No Dar, no Quinn, so it's really down to Carrie who until now is largely out of the game, the POTUS, who is ok but can't carry the show, and Saul, who until now was taking a back seat to both. I don't hate O'Keefe like a lot of people, but I'm not sure how long he'll stay relevant.
re: Homeland - Season 7 - SpoilerificPosted by TigerLunatik on 2/26/18 at 4:43 pm to Pettifogger
Can't argue with any of that really. I mean there's not gonna be any more Quinn since he's dead, but her storyline being the central part of the show and being damn near the exact same in the beginning of every season can get old.
My issue with O'Keefe is that God awful accent. The character itself is good IMO. I mean, that guy was pretty damn good in Meet Joe Black.
I like this version of Keen way more than last season and think the storyline with the Chief of Staff trying to run things is intriguing. We'll see how it holds up.
I'm most looking forward to Dar and Saul though.

I wouldn't mind seeing more King Ecbert. He's good and I like how he's going rogue on the annoying president.

This show is best when it relies on its outstanding actors- Sal and Dar. The scenes with them are great
I think them and quinn were the best characters, so the less the show them, it takes away from the show.
I actually like the President. Think she's intriguing. I just hate O'Keafe. That accent.

yeah that was some of her best acting, especially the helplessness of getting the meds/ratio/diet right could take years

yeah Ruby Ridge comes to mind. How did the militia reinforce the group with the FBI right outside the property? did no one bring a fricking drone? why hasnt the FBI jammed their communications yet? Saul is the worst field operative ever

Episode 3 didnt have much meat, but I’m pretty excited for the next one.
I’m intrigued by this random lady and her connection to the chief of staff, what the chief of staffs ultimate goal is, and how much O’Keefe actually knows.

tonights episode already available on demand. best episode of the season but previews for next week look like we're going down a ridiculous, but predictable path.

It was very good, but I'm really surprised that they straight up used the Ruby Ridge story line with the dog and the kid. It was bad enough when they brought in the heavy vehicles like Waco. Not coincidence that it's the 25th anniversary of Waco either.
Don't get me wrong, they made it work and I enjoyed it, just surprised it was so close to actual event. I was waiting for the mom to get shot in the head and for the house to catch on fire.

Homeland is never subtle
In the preview for next week Saul says something in the briefing. I don't want to repeat it in case someone didn't watch it, but how the frick would he know that? Didn't he just become the director a couple of days before all of this? I guess we will be getting a special counsel to investigate.

Is season 6 even worth watching?
Just binged season 6 and thought it was pretty good. Not on s1, s2, s4 level, but still entertaining.
Probably would not have enjoyed it as much on a weekly basis though.
The Alex Jones character was hilarious. Funny how they portrayed the bot army as a right wing group when it is well documented that CTR/ShareBlue was a left wing bot army during the 2016 election.
Given what we have seen with Parkland, Vegas, and Pulse the African kid being framed for an attack was pretty spot on. Makes you question the "attacks" we have in real life and who is really behind them.
Homeland definitely has its weak spots but it is still watchable and relevant even 6+ seasons in, which is difficult to do in tv.
About to start s7, hopefully they don't go full retard with SJW/anti-trump plot.
