Just don't make the mistake a lot of people make. They get into Hitchcock like the movies a lot but then never dig any deeper into other classics.

Nah, but those are definitely where I'm starting. I figure if he can't suck me in with the 13 films I listed, then it's just not for me. I have a feeling I'll really like a few, like most, and dislike only a few. Can't wait to find out though. The problem is gonna be finding time.

I've been taping upcoming Hitchcock movies using the site I posted earlier. Having discovered the Encore Suspense Channel and looking at TMC more, I've taped some more classics to watch. I hope I live to watch all of these.

I watched Vertigo this morning. It was just alright, IMO. This didn't have near as much suspense as SoaT, and honestly just kinda dragged along in spots. The big twist caught me off guard though, and I was surprised by that. The ending was fairly meh, and I kinda figured that's what was gonna happen anyway.
I think after watching both movies in the past week, I am a much bigger fan of SoaT. I DVR'd Rear Window this morning (the one I'm probably most excited about seeing) and should watch it sometime in the next few days.

Strangers on a Train came in the mail a couple days ago. I'll be home from a work trip this afternoon and expect the others to be there when I check my mailbox. I'm pumped.

Yes, before a week ago Psycho was the only hitchcock I'd seen, but this thread got me wanting to investigate. As I've posted I just recently watched SoaT and Vertigo. Watched RW last night.
I really liked rear window, much more than vertigo. I wanted to get into hitchcock simply for the suspense, since I like being in suspense sometimes during movies and he's one of the best. I didn't really get that from vertigo. It just kinda draaaaagged along. I tried to go into rear window without any prior knowledge, although there's a Simpsons episode based around it so I kinda knew the gist.
Anyways, I liked it a lot. The plot didn't really get stale, the suspense lasted pretty good throughout, and held my interest all the way til the end. If I had to say, I'd put this one slightly above SoaT, although that one definitely surpassed my expectations.
ETA: The woman doing calisthenics across the yard was sexy as frick.

I scanned the thread and noticed one mention, but would add The 39 Steps to any list of Hitchcock movies. You have to get past 1935 cinematography, but you'll see the early signs that he could take great stories and tell them incredibly well.

Not yet. I started watching Shadow of a Doubt over the weekend, but started it pretty late and fell asleep like 30 minutes in.
One problem I noticed I had was that I wasn't sure where to start. I've seen The Birds and Psycho before, but it's been FOREVER so I need to watch those as well. But I didn't know if I should watch them in chronological order, or pick favorites, etc.
I ended up choosing Shadow of a Doubt because I really liked the synopsis of it (it was between that and Strangers on a Train), but I'm open to suggestions if anybody has any in terms of what/when to watch.
And my original plan was to blank out an upcoming weekend and just dive into it and watch them all.

There's a hitchcock movie coming on tomorrow night late on AMC. No idea which one though, that's just a reminder I set in my phone calendar ha.

I think you're doing it the right way. Start with the ones that sound the most interesting to you. But yeah while I love Shadow of a Doubt that's not where I would start.
If I had to start somebody on Hitchcock from scratch I'd probably go with North By Northwest or Rear Window to start out.
