I am late to the "His Dark Materials" party. Read all the books and saw "Golden Compass" years ago. Just started watching the new series.

Am I the only one who did not immediately notice that Lyra played Wolverine's daughter Laura in the film "Logan" back in 2017?

Lyra

Laura

I only found it by accident.

When Pan turned into a wolverine form to fight Coulter's annoying golden monkey, I asked myself, "Self, is this the first time that Pan has taken the form of a wolverine?" and I hit Google.

And I learned that the show runners used that form for Pan as an homage to Dafne's earlier film. Cool.

Anyway, I am liking this series.

I think they've done a pretty great job with the series in all areas except for Scoresby.

Yea as far as kid actors go, she is by far one of the best. A bad actress in this would have really dragged the show down but she has done a really good job. Loved season one, but the season two ending was a bit of a disappointment. Not really surprising though because the books got worse with each one. But either way, I'm looking forward to this next season. Very underrated show.

Great actress that I really wanted to be cast for Ellie in The Last of Us TV show.

Season 2 was a bit of a letdown, but it's the definition of a solid, but not spectacular show IMO.

I am going to need a serious refresher before watching the last season since it has been so long since season 2

I wanted to get into this, but every time I watched I kept thinking this is a poor man’s Golden Compass. The effects aren’t as good as the movie adaptation and it takes me out all the time.

Was it another casualty of Covid?

From Wiki:

quote:

Filming of the second series began before the premiere of the first, which was considered "a necessary move considering the age of the show's young star".[45] While filming for series 2 was mostly completed before the COVID-19 pandemic, a standalone episode focusing on Lord Asriel was left unfinished. As a consequence the series ultimately only consisted of seven episodes.[46] Although McAvoy completed a small amount of filming before production was shut down,[47] his appearance in the series' final episode was filmed during the pandemic, repurposed from material written for the abandoned episode.[48]

By November 2020, work had begun on six of eight scripts for a third series adapting The Amber Spyglass. The commission was confirmed in December 2020, for a series of eight episodes,[2][49] and production began in early 2021.[47] Filming for the third series took place between 24 May and 31 October 2021.[50]

Probably a mix of post production and optimizing respective release schedules.

Probably didnt want the show going up against House of the Dragon

You serious? The movie isn't even close to as good as the show. First time I've ever heard someone say this.

Sam Elliot > Lin-Manuel Miranda, but...
HBO Golden Compass > Movie Golden Compass
