Airs tonight baby. Been looking forward to this for a long time.

There are three books, I'm curious if this will go past 3 seasons if it ends up being a hit. Great cast, great story (the 1st book was great). Looks like HBO went all out for this. Currently at 8.8/10 on IMDB.

Who's in?

Definitely in on this one! Read the first two books and almost done the third. Great source material to work with and should be awesome visually knowing it is being done by HBO.

Since it's HBO, maybe they'll be less likely to try to dissuade kids from Christianity in the thinly veiled guise of a young adult book. The writer is a garbage human being.

Loved the books. Read them in 2007 when I was in my early 30s. Didn't so much as finish The Golden Compass movie with Kidman.

What makes you say that? I've read these 3 books, nothing else, and have never read up on him.

From Wikipedia:
Pullman is quoted as saying: "I'm trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief."[66][67] In the same interview, Pullman acknowledges that a controversy would be likely to boost sales...

I'm confused about these a bit.

Seems to me that this is a remake of The Golden Compass thingy from a few years back.

It's an extremely anti-Christian work that was published as a young adult series. Yes, it is the same story as the failure of a movie. Here's hoping the new series will be JUST as successful.

You want to believe your own beliefs? Have at it. But to try and influence young teens without stating as such? Snake-in-the-grass garbage human being.

Yea it's based off a series of books. I never saw the movie and glad I didnt. I never got a I hate christians vibe. I'm a christian and it never crossed my mind that he was trying to undermine Christianity, it's just a fairly unique fantasy story. I guess that's what he was going for according to the other guy, but I doubt the show will come across that way.

Never read the books or saw the movie, but the trailer looks hella interesting so I'll definitely be giving it a chance

it's not literally that , i'm grossly oversimplifying.

ETA: I misremembered. it was a quote from Pullman where he said "my books are about killing God."

he really hates religion lol

It's anti Christian establishment, and it's much more anti Institutional Control, regardless of Pullman's own comments.

The trilogy is one of my favorite series of all time. I havent read the new books yet, but I will get to them eventually.

I trust HBO is going to keep the tone of the series as adult as possible, and not make it a kids series like the movie.

I wonder if HBO will go cheap on the familiars like they did with GOT’s dire wolves?

Pantalaimon is my favorite character so I hope not. They might surprise but I dont see them having change shape at will though.

How small is your god?

Everything is a threat to this omnipotent, omniprescient, omnipresence. How is Harry Potter and Polar Bears beating him so badly that you, a mere mortal must take grave offense for him?
