What a delightful film, and also one that racked up numerous Oscar noms in 1978. Beatty and Julie Christie and Jack Warden...how can it be bad??

The ending is both heartbreaking and uplifting a the same time. I wish high quality, a-list movies like this were still made.

Be sure to check out Here Comes Mr. Jordan with Robert Montgomery and the radio version with Cary Grant.

Loved that movie. Even as a kid.

Dyan Cannon and Charles Grodin were hilarious.

It's a very enjoyable dramedy that we re-watched many times. Chris Rock did a remake called Down to Earth that was meh.

Seeing that rams #16 at QB in the SB was crazy. At last there's no video of Stan Kroenke lighting up the Rams D at practice...

Apparently Beatty lobbied and lobbied for Grant to come out of retirement to play Mr. Jordan in the movie, hell, he even used Dyan Cannon (his ex wife) to convince him. Yet he still wouldn't do it. Jame Mason was good though, too.

Watched that movie probably 100 times. Had it on one of those old video disc players from the early 80’s. Loved it

Super fun movie.

Beatty showed some acting chops and athleticism in the movie.

Dyan Cannon used to cause instant chubs back then and Julie Christie was being billed as the next Jacqueline Bisset when, in fact, everyone thought they were sisters and both were roughly the same age if I remember correctly. Bisset had better tits I think.

Charles Grodin was hot at the time. His schtick was in style thanks and had been for about ten years by that time. But abut ten years later Betty and he would do another movie together that some would later declare was/is the worst movie of all time.

(Bonus points for anyone that gets that one.)

Grodin would later play another accountant, bad guy but funny, with Robert Deniro that would receive quite a bit of critical acclaim and would also afford Deniro his first shot at comedy really. I think Grodin is still alive. At least I don’t remember him dying. He was the consummate play it cool and dry supporting actor. Who can ever forget him as the baby doctor in Rosemary’s Baby.

We do.

And it's still the strangest over-reaction to a movie by critics...

There have been plenty worse. Same with the over-reaction to Waterworld...far worse films than that.

But star power in movie flops makes people say absurd things.

Loved this movie since I was a little kid.

The whole training montage with the wait staff set to Handel’s Sonata No. 3 is such a great sequence. Always wanted that to be my back yard.

Midnight Run

One of my favorite comedies of all time. Very underrated.

Midnight Run was a fun movie and, as always, Grodin was very funny.

He wrote a book titled something like "It Would Be So Nice If You Weren't Here". Can't remember a single thing about the book except it's unusual title.

Bumping because Heaven can wait has apparently begun playing on Starz. It's been on all weekend.

I live how LA Rams had a net value of $19 million in 1978, and Beatty buys them for the exorbitant price of $67 million...
