Will suck now. This was really the only part of the MCU that I actually cared about, along with a lot of other sci fi fans.

Seriously doubt it. Enough people have probably been there for 1 & 2 that they can pull it off without him.

My question is, for anyone that knows, did Gunn write the scripts? This will be the biggest factor in my opinion. Give Pratt a good script and let Starlord do his thing. Everything will be fine.

This is what happens when you live in a society that punishes people for stupid shite they said 8 years ago... an apology isn't enough.

Gunn wrote both scripts. His brother acted as 2nd unit director for GotG2 in addition to his on screen role. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that's a little more concerning. If they play their cards right they can still pull it off.

If I were in charge I would hire the best 3 screenwriters I could find. They have the advantage of seeing what worked in the first 2. Take the best script and keep as many people that were involved in the first 2.

Nicole Perlman co-wrote or assisted writing (who knows what her actual involvement was - but it was enough to get writing credit) in the first GotG. Gunn was sole writing credit in GotG2.
I think the safe move would be bring her back to spearhead the script and, in my opinion, beg the frick out of Joss to come back and direct.

Rian Johnson is a strange case. He directed the single greatest episode of Breaking Bad and Ruined my favorite movie series.

My question about him is this- When he made the episode Ozymandias, was it great because he was controlled by Vince or turned loose?

Did The Last Jedi suck because he was controlled by Disney or because he was turned loose?

I have an opinion on this, but it probably deserves it's own thread so this one doesn't get derailed.

I’ve read that he completed the script (or at least mostly) for GotG3 already. There will be changes I’m sure but there were likely already going to be some. I’d think for the most part they use that and best case scenario, Taika Waititi directs. Rewriting it all could delay the release.
We’ll see if Thor survives A4 but I’d say it’s likely and was also a possiblility he’d show up in GotG3 already instead of doing Thor 4 right away. If that happens it’s even more reason for Taika to take it, but either way it makes the most sense I’d think.

They are going to have to completely rewrite. They aren’t going to want to give him writing credits.

It was definitely weaker than the first as far as the plot is concerned, but it still had a lot of great moments which in my opinion is what makes GOTG so good.

Strengthen the plot a bit and manage to have enough of those great funny, sad, and happy moments and you have got a winner. This is coming from someone who dislikes comic book movies.

The question is was Gunn solely responsible for the chemistry? If not it will be okay. If so they might be in trouble. I have a feeling that what we have seen so far was more of a team effort so I think it will be alright.

My issue is that it seems like too often the director is also the screenwriter. Unless you're a bad arse like Kubrick I feel like this would lead to having your head up your own arse.

Mix it up and look at different directions it could go. Combine some of the stronger material and eliminate the weak.

My point is if you have to replace the guy responsible for the first two collaborate and come up with something great.

I hope Rian Johnson does get the job just to see the melt from idiot Marvel fanboys. The fact is there are plenty of directors who can do this. Gunn isn't special.
