Peak Mickey Rourke, peak Don Johnson, young Vanessa Williams, Alex Baldwin's fat brother, still coherent Tom Sizemore, character actor-stage Giancarlo Espizito, and Big John Studd, come together for an arse-kicking, testosterone-driven tale of 1996 Los Angeles and the new street drug Crystal Dream.
Never has Bon Jovi sounded better than in The Greatest opening in movie history (NSFW)
Quote of the film:
"I'd rather be dead and cool than alive and uncool"
Honrable mention:
Harley: Where ya going?
Hot hitchhiker: Nowhere special
Harley: C'mon, I'll take you there...

Indiana Jones Raiders with the rolling boulder is iconic.

Micky Rourke in the very first stages of becoming a mutant.

perhaps recency bias but Infinity War with Thanos wrecking shop while the opening credits are trying to roll was pretty legit
for a comedy I thought Just Friends has a great way of setting the tone early as well
and Saving Private Ryan is probably the GOAT if we disregard the opening 4 mins and 30s and count everything that follows

Love that movie. Features Big John Studd and a young Gus Fring

I really don't like war/military movies but Saving Private Ryan unquestionably had the GOAT film opening.

For the opening credits, I’ve always been partial to Raging Bull.

For it's portrayal of how sh*tty people let the world get, the sadness of the public's reaction to the death of Diego Ricardo's sorry arse, and the surprise that follows, gets you in the mood for a lot more sadness to come in Children of Men (2006).
How close are we to this now?

Walked out on them titties without saying a word.

Just stared at her, smoke poring off of him in the cheap motel doorway, and said, F-it, I'm out.
Total badass. And, real life Mickey Rourke of 1991 probably did similar things.
