GOT's The Door episode is the most feels of TV ever
Posted by ScottFowler on 1/24/17 at 10:09 pm204
Spoilers.....
It is much more brutal than even "Jurassic Bark"
This character, a punchline/useful tool for five seasons, finally gets used one more time as a sacrificial raodblock which explains "the joke" on the reader/viewers.
I cannot watch without tears for sacrifice....

Same here. My fiancé called me a pussy for tearing up. She watched it and didn't even feel bad. Maybe engaged to a sociopath ??

She either doesn't feel sacrifice, or did not see enough of the character.
I am a sucker for sacrifice...
ie Iron Giant taking out the missle...superman...
I cannot turnoff the waterworks

This was more brutal because of the length of the development, and the jokes made about the character during the previous seasons...

the ending to "jurassic bark" is the only time ive ever seen futurama. maybe the saddest thing i have ever seen on television. ive lost a dog before, never lost a hodor.

They're both brutal. The difference is that "The Door" is masterful writing, a thread played out over seasons for an earned gut punch that I haven't watched since the first time I saw it. I even watched the Red Wedding more than once. "Jurassic Bark" is just a cheap trick for no reason other than to make the audience hate life. I wanted to physically fight the writer when it ended.

Neither this nor Jurassic Bark gave me the feels. I love GoT but I was underwhelmed when it got to that scene.

Hodor was such a one-note character. Yeah, his backstory gave him some much needed depth, but it didn't make up for the fundamental lack in his development as a human being over several seasons. He wasn't much more than a potted plant.
Picard's epiphany in "The Inner Light" left a bigger impact.
Henry's death in MASH left a bigger impact.
"Damn, Damn, Damn!" in Good Times left a bigger impact.
Hodor's story was certainly tragic but ultimately very, very self-contained and small. Unlike his dick. See, the fact I can make that joke illustrates one of many ways the character was cheap. His life's fulfillment wasn't much more than satisfying a punchline.

Did you expect him to overcome his disabilities, find a fulfilling job, meet a girl and make a nice life for himself? Was he supposed to become a shining light of hope for other Hodors in Westeros?

As implied, I have limited empathy for potted plants. For years, I didn't care about the character, so tacking on this sob story backstory at the last minute felt like a cheap gimmick more than anything.

Brutal. Dude was screwed up in the head because he saw his own death and lived with it.

Maybe you just have limited empathy period.

I just realized that Vin Diesel has basically done this scene twice.
"Superman"
"We are Groot"

It is pretty funny how "Hodor" kind of stopped being used as an insult on this board after that episode.

If she's read the books and/or watched every episode of GoT, then yes.

nothing yet mentioned compares to the movie "Diablo" with Eastwood's son starring.Ending is most interesting.
