I’m in the middle of my first rewatch and man I forgot how great seasons 1-4 were, especially 4. It has to be up there for GOAT season in tv history. I know it’s been said before but the noticeable drop off after 4 is magnified after a rewatch. I really hope the last season returns to beginning form. 1 week to go

Eh, 6 is great, too, and 5 and 7 are still better than almost everything else out there.

Well the two of the things that most people didn’t like about season 7 was writing quality (blamed on running out of book material though this wasn’t the first season for that) and that the show is sped up tremendously. Those things aren’t going to change. The last few seasons just can’t be like the first few. The season will definitely be rushed given the run time and episode number.

We're starting a rewatch tonight. I've got 21 episodes we're gonna go. It was a list a producer of the show put together saying this is what you should watch before season 8.

Season 5 and season 7 also suffer from clearly being designed to set up the following seasons.

The time travel in season 7 is what makes me the most disappointed. There were several times I said “oh come on” in a tv show about dragons and white walkers

Definitely not bad television. I think the first four seasons are so great, however, that seasons 5-7 sometimes seem bad in comparison. But there is a lot of great material in all three of those seasons, despite their inferiority to seasons 1-4. If GRRM had actually focused on finishing the series rather than focusing on food, they might have been much better than they turned out.

I'm on S4 of full rewatch and it's amazing.

I'm not as looking forward to some elements in s5+, but I can't wait for some S6 stuff... you know.

Season 5 is more based on book material than certain people seem to want to acknowledge. It was always going to be a drop off form season 4, due to the difference in quality between A Storm of Swords and the two books that followed it. Personally, I think Season 6 is every bit as good as the earlier seasons. Even the seasons I consider the weakest have 2-3 of the best TV episodes of the year.

I would bet it's just to set it up in as good of position as possible for the Emmy's.

My only issue with GoT is some of the fight scenes are terrible.

The decision to make the series 8 seasons instead of 9, with season 8 being shortened, was definitely a poor one for season 7. I hope it works out for season 8 though. Season 6 is incredible though even without a book. It’s clear GRRM had put a lot of thought into that season’s material, even without having published a book for it yet

My wife and I don't have the time to rewatch the whole show, but we watched one of these "Crammed" episodes on Youtube each night and it refreshed our memories enough to get ready for season 8. Each one is 20 - 30 minutes long and cover a whole season.

Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
Season 5
Season 6
Season 7

No.

Care to elaborate? There’s a drop off between season 6 and 7. It’s clear 7 wasn’t as well planned out. Do you think the show runners suddenly got worse at planning out their plot? Or do you think GRRM actually contributed more to season 6 than he did to season 7? It’s pretty obvious. They’ve said in interviews how much he told them about what to do in season 6
